US Postal Service Employment? When seeking employment with USPS, and took a test you get a letter that says on the top Notice of Rating Eligible It says basic ratings and final ratings are the identical at low 70s. What does this mean, and what's my chance of getting an interview with this letter in Washington Metropolitan Area?
What happens after passing the US Postal Service Exam? I passed the USPS exam a couple of months ago. Then, two weeks ago, I received a letter stating that I can create an online profile through the USPS employment website to apply for jobs because I have passed the exam and I'm in the USPS database. I created a profile online, and I searched for jobs in every category, but only 3 are listed in the entire state of Texas--all of them corporate or sales positions. I passed a carrier exam, and I find it hard to believe that there are no current job openings for carriers in all of Texas! What should I do to apply for a carrier position? The letter I received said that the USPS contacted people in the past for interviews, but they are in the midst of switching to an all-online process now where everyone must apply instead of being contacted. I feel like I'm caught between the old way and new way since it seems they're not posting carrier positions online in my area yet. Is it possible they'll still call, or is there someplace else I should apply? Has anyone recently been hired by the USPS who can share their experience? Thanks for any advice!
Current employer asking for resume? My friend works for the US Postal Service and they've been asked to turn in updated resumes. This seems to be part of deciding who will be layed off, but is he competing for his job with this resume or are they deciding who has the best chance of finding new employment? Other ideas? Is anyone else having problems on HotJobs? I was attempting to edit my resume on HotJobs;when I went on "Edit my employment profile",made my changes, and clicked "Save and exit", I get an error message stating: "According to US Postal Service records, the city/state combination you specified "Bronx, NY" doesn't exist. We've made the best guess suggestion for City." I have had my account on HotJobs for some time now,and as long as I have had it,I have lived in Bronx, NY,and there has never been a problem. I tried rebooting my PC to see if that would repair the problem-it doesn't. What is going on with Yahoo-there seems to be problems and/or glitches on all their services.
Is this a USPS SCAM?????? Im not sure if this is a scam or not but first there was an ad in the paper with the number 1-866-945-0291 they said go to gopostalwork.com (it was unavailable ) so I typed employment usps and got a 2009 us postal service ad (online)with this number 1-800-910-9941. Someone talked to me about the test and how high i had to score and how much i had to pay for the test material like , $190, so I said i'm waiting for the bank to send me more checks and they say job offers are first come first served and i had until friday to pay them ! I don't know , can anybody help! should i pay????????
Will a 13 Year old Expunged Felony Conviction prevent me from getting a job with the U.S. Postal Service? Long story short....Thirteen years ago, I was a bank teller and was blamed for cashing a check for a customer on an account that wasn't hers. The bank blamed me for it, and pressed charges, even though a total stranger was the one that cashed the check and left the bank with the money. I was a single mother, couldn't afford an attorney, had to use a public defender, who told me that I would go to jail for 5-10 years if I didn't plead guilty. Another long story short, he told me that I would be able to have it Expunged after the case was over. I thought Expunged meant ERASED, and BOY was I wrong. I never went to jail, was ordered probation, but it was cancelled immediately, they just wanted to convict SOMEBODY, and I was responsible. I am now seeking employment and have registered with an agency in the Dallas area. They REALLY want me to go and interview with the US Post Office. It's EXCELLENT money, but they require Security Clearance!! I haven't had any problems getting other jobs, but I also haven't been fingerprinted for any other jobs. I have had regular criminal background checks, but nothing shows up. Should I even bother applying? They (Post Office) ask if I have had any convictions in the past 7 years, and I had and have NEVER been in trouble except for that. Should I save myself the embarrassment at my agency?
Can I decide not to go after being sworn in? This isn't about me, actually (I wish I was eligible for military service). I know someone who recently joined the United States Army. She scored well on the ASVAB, took the physical, signed the papers, and got sworn in. All she is waiting for now is to be shipped out in January for basic training. However, she has now decided that she doesn't want to go, and there are no legitimate extenuating circumstances for a dismissal. She's simply wimping out because she is lazy. I'm pretty sure I already know the answer: Once the papers are signed and the oath is taken, your butt belongs to Uncle Sam. I have a friend who went through the entire process of joining the Army but had also applied for a job with the US Postal Service. He was hired by the Postal Service before his shipping date arrived. Being a government job, he was not obligated to follow through with military service. However, this other person has not applied for any other type of government employment. So, am I correct in thinking that whether she likes it or not, she is going to the Army one way or another; either willingly, or in the company of a couple burly MPs?

Let me add-this family member is an in-law,and works for the US postal service making $25+ an hour. She does have three kids,and is married to a worker for the town she lives in. Three years later-You've not saw a penny of the money back,even though you've asked for it repeatedly. (You spent the rest of the settlement on a place to live and a car) Your electric gets turned off b/c your funds are low b/c your spouse is drawing unemployment as the only income,and somehow the bill was overlooked. You don't realize you'd gotten a disconnect notice (we'd looked at the bill for the month prior,not the current month) and hadn't paid on time until the electric goes off. Long story short-you call the spouse's family,and have to borrow money to get it back on. The in-law that borrowed the $5000 from you covers half of the money to get it reconnected. (Reminder-the half of the bill she paid is all you've saw of the $5000 that she borrowed from you) and another in-law covers the other half. The in-law that borrowed the $5000 insists that you pay her back before the end of the next week! Is it just me,or does that seem like it's totally unfair?? Here this in-law is owing me $5,000,and we'd borrowed $240 for half of what it cost to get the electric turned back on,and owing us $5000 is insisting we pay her back???? Would that flat out outrage anyone else,or is it just me? I find it rather irritating that she borrowed all of that money from us and didn't return one red cent of it,yet is demanding we pay her back within the next week the money we had to have to get our electric turned on for a CABLE bill!!!! Not even a necessary utility while we're struggling while he's seeking new employment to keep food on the table and bills paid. We have two kids of our own to take care of,and we're at this moment not receiving any assistance at all. Should I perform my own background check? I am in the transportation industry and I want to apply for a certain job but my friend told me that when he went to the company that they asked him for his social security number and his whole employment history came out on their computer. I don't know what he did thereafter but he wound up getting the job anyway. I guess if he "lied" on the application before they asked him for his SS# then it would've been a different story. What did they do to him and which background check service do most companies use so that I can perform my own, complete BC, so as to properly fill the application and update my resume? In this industry a BC is mandatory. I'm prepared to pay cuz I don't believe in those sites that provide free BC. Can I have the US Postal Service perform one on me? It used to be easier in the past.

When will USPS be taken over by people who actually want customers? I sent an email complaining that a tolll-free employment verification number for USPS hadn't been working for the last 3 weeks -- I'm trying to verify employment for someone I want to hire. Here is the response I got by email from usps customer support: "Thank you for contacting us about the Postal Employee verification phone line not working. Unfortunately if this number is out of service you will have to wait until it does work." I know if I got an email about my company having a problem with one of it's phone lines, I sure wouldn't respond this way....
