Why does the post office advertise? Canada Post and the US Postal Service both advertise on TV about letter delivery. At least the USPS mentions parcel services (i.e. they have competition with courier companies). The Canada Post commercials really don't advertise anything, short of telling us they exist (oh, really.. ok thanks for letting me know!)....

A day after US online retail giant Amazon (who deliver parcels worldwide) announced that it was no longer offering South African customers standard postal delivery due to massive theft by SA Post Office employees, the Post Office has announced that it will sell cut-price books, DVDs and CDs direct to the public outside the back door of its branches nationwide. According to a statement made by Post Office spokesman Gift Mkhize, the new retail outlets would operate on a cash-only, first-come first-served, don't-ask-don't-tell basis. He added that for those customers who did not feel like queuing there would be "mobile franchises" parked near most branches, where the public was welcome to buy goods out of the boots of Post Office employees' cars. Asked if the Post Office was ashamed at being the only postal service in Africa to be blacklisted by the US retail giant, Mkhize was defiant, saying that Amazon's bold branding on its packaging was to blame for the rampant pilfering. "Those parcels have 'Amazon' written all over them," he said. "Our employees find this very provocative. "Most of our staff are functionally illiterate, but over the years, handling many printed items, some of them have developed a rudimentary sense of lettering, and that big A and big Z are unmistakable." He said that expecting Post Office staff not to pocket their clients' packages was "as naïve as expecting Members of Parliament not to fiddle their expense accounts". According to Mkhize, the decision to sell merchandise outside the back door of branches had been made at Board level, after initial anti-theft measures proved ineffective. A whois domain search shows that the site is based/hosted in the USA. So the USA is the likely source, but I know that in this day and age this does not necessarily mean that the company ships from this country, so this could be a tracking number from pretty much worldwide. I never said this was easy!!!! I had already tried all the US services I could think of, ie UPSP, UPS, Fed-Ex but that was me out of idea's. USPS Form 4232 "Rural Customer Delivery Instructions"? We just moved into a new house and despite the fact that we already informed the postal service of our address change AND put our names inside the mailbox, they still want us to fill it out. The form basically asks us to enter all the names of people who may receive mail at our address. My only question is, is this exclusive? We're renting and we are going to include our landlord's name but we're also planning to get a roommate so if we don't include that person's (who we have no idea who yet) name will they not get mail here? Also, the post man spelled the name of our street incorrectly. If he's they're so concerned about us getting our mail, shouldn't they spell that right?
