Should the striking postal workers not just be grateful they have a job? It makes me think that the armed forces go into combat with ill armoured helicopters and inadequate weapons for a paltry £16,000 salary. Yet postal workers are striking in a recession where tens, if not hundreds of thousands of unemployed people would jump at a chance of a job. You don't see the armed forces striking do you? Your opinions please.
What is life like for the postal workers of the UK? What kinds of qualifications are needed for this job, what income would one earn as a postal worker, are people promoted in the business? What are the working hours? Do you know any additional details about postal workers? This is urgent so please don't just point me to another search engine.

UK: Do you feel the Postal Workers are actually going to achieve anything? Stike action again! My husband was a postal worker for 13 years so I feel have some authority on this. He too was caught up in the strike action and was pressured into striking against his will, (for fear of repurcussions), he left, and still it goes on.... It is crippling small businesses, important post is not reaching people on deadlines, people who have used special or recorded delivery have wasted their money, and when they return to work they are only going to have to clear up the devastation they have caused. Strike action achieves nothing and I fear will only split the countries support and turn a large majority of us against the workers. Duirmurd: For the record, I am a qualified nurse and was a senior staff nurse for 12 years. I NEVER once agreed with strike action. I purposely joined the RCN as they were against strike action, and as I stated my husband was a post man through this period so there is no need to lecture me on living on a low wage and poor, ever changing conditions. My brother offered for me to go into the property development business and decorate houses for him for double the wage. I of course chose the option to work for him. Not everyone has that much luck so you have to seize it.
what time do postal workers get to the post office? do you know what time post office workers get to the post office? I know when it opens but the workers must get there early. my brother dropped off a envelope and has to retrieve it. I told him to be there right when the postal workers get there but I have no idea when that may be..........any guesses?
Do you support the striking postal workers? Just had to drive 20 miles to deliver a business letter or lose a customer. Cost to me of £8 (at inland revenue agreed rate of 40p per mile). This is a small inconvenience compared to what is coming; people not getting bills/statements, missing payments, getting late payment fees applied, losing business etc. Do you think we should support postal workers who object to changes in working hours and arrangments or do you think it would be a good thing to reduce postal woekers and get some real alternatives out there so that we don't have to suffer this inconvenience?
How much do we tip Postal Workers and UPS Guy? We run a home based eBay business and have someone from the Post Office pick up our packages 3 times per week. We also have a PO Box at the actual post office that we go to, and we have a UPS Driver that comes here about 2 times per week and drops off about 2-5 boxes each time. How much do we tip each of the people? The Postal workers who pick up the packages, the 2 guys that work at the post office where we have our PO Box and the UPS Driver?
Can postal workers do this in the town they work in? Can they ask out residents out on dates if they are their mail carrier ? Is it appropriate for postal workers to mix social/romance on the job ? A mailman asked me out once and he dropped off a letter telling me to call him in a pink envelope - now everytime I go downtown or to the post office - he keeps staring at me and it makes me really uncomfortable. Maybe he has a crush on me but this is just awkward
Should the Congress let the Postal office layoff all those workers? Should the congress let the postal office layoff 120,000 postal workers and violate there agreement with the unions? I think they should not because that would just add to the unemployment rate and it is not right for them to void a contract anytime a company has financial issues when i have issues congress does not void my contract and let me off. What about all the bad loans people got via predatory lending, those people should have gotten a free house and congress should have voided there contracts for all Americans who have venerable rate loans
Is there a Law that requires postal workers to put mail in your mailbox? I live in a 3 flat in the city and for weeks our postal officer has just been throwing all of the mail on a table instead of sorting it and putting it in our individual boxes. This certainly seems like a breach of confidentiality and risks identity theft. I have looked at some postal law but I couldn't find anything that requires them by law to sort and place mail in boxes in multiple unit buildings. Any help would be appreciated. Does anyone know of the specific law? I would like to quote it when I call and complain.
Why do postal workers seem nutty ? How come postal workers have reputation being crazy ? Are alot of postal workers abused by customers for high prices and long waits ? There is a guy at the UPS store and he is so defensive . He overcharges people and people complain .He always talks like he is picking fights with people - is it becuz he gets abused all the time ?
Why are most postal workers so evil? know that the term going postal means a killing spree and came from the incidents of postal workers going on killing sprees. Why postal workers? The thing is I noticed myself that most of the postal workers I talk to never smile and have a frown/angry face and are often blunt and rude. That's from my own experience. Why is that?
Do the postal workers really expect the general public to have sympathy with them? I certainly don't. I have been waiting since last week for a very important letter and now that they are intending to strike again next week, isn't it time we just disbanded the Royal Mail and looked for other alternatives? yeah vivi for an unskilled job, they get paid more than people who work in supermarkets of factories. They are acting as if they are the only organisation in the UK that has redundancies.
How come WI teachers are dumber that Greek postal workers and janitors? In Athens they rioted for a couple of days, then gave up. Everyone realized that the govt ran out of other people money and some austerity is inevitable, protests or no protests. In WI this crowd of thugs calling themselves teachers still did not get this simple fact - the coffers are empty.
Are Royal Mail postal workers allowed to leave the mail unattended? Our post at work is often left unattended in the red Royal Mail bags on the street for about half an hour before they are actually posted. Not sure where the postman goes, it is annoying seeing our mail outside, and also worrying! We have previously found bank statements etc opened and left by the post box. I've asked the postman not to, but we seem to have a different one each week! What is the law, and who can I go to about this? Thanks!
Why are Postal Workers so upset about losing saturday delivery? It seems they would be happy getting off Saturday and Sunday. Just curious. I understand the same volume answer... but it actually isn't the same volume due to electronic media. The reason they want to get rid of saturday is because of the decrease in volume.
Why are the postal workers not satisfied? Instead of striking, they should be grateful for having jobs at all in this economy. Especially since their work is relatively easy and already high paying versus factory work, etc. The postal workers make far more than 1.50 per hour. Please try to stay within the realm of reality and the focus of this issue.
Why do US postal workers lack any common sense? I came home just now and a package containg a $200 item I ordered was just sitting there near the mailbox, on the sidewalk where any kid could just come along and take it. Now I'm worried about other items I ordered, maybe they've already been stolen.
Do postal workers work on long weekends ? Im expecting a package that is supposed to be here by Monday but this week is a long weekend, is there still post on Mondays during long weekends or will I have to wait until tuesday? (im using Canada Post)
How do you deal with theft by postal workers? My aunt sent presents for my kids through the mail. Someone stole one right out of the box at the post office. (the box was not tampered with) how would she go about righting this? and why are people so heartless? its christmas! and someone stole a present from a BABY! its more of a "lets bust who did this" than anything else. because i'm sure whoever it is, is stealing a TON of things. My grandmothers package was rummaged through, it was a mess from what i understand but nothing was taken.
Shouldn't We All Be Congratulating The Striking Postal Workers? Afterall it's actually been all of TWO whole years since the greedy lazy leeches last held this country to ransom over petty pay demands. Well done lads you're doing this country, the general public, and the postal service proud. Small business salutes you.
Why Do Postal Workers Go On Killing Sprees? Now of course I don't mean all postal workers. But there have been 18 postal worker rampages in the last 20 years worldwide. In these cases I am not talking about just one or two murders, they all involve 5 or more deaths caused by the person. I know this is a sensitive question due to the horrible incident in California the other night, but your thoughts and opinions may help others understand. (A current postal workers opinon would be very helpful here.)
Are postal workers required by federal law to deliver all mail? I recently started attending school two hours away from home, and am using a friend's address to get all school-related mail, and recently, the carrier has been writing "put name on mailbox, or no more mail to this person will be delivered" and "No name on box, no mail, final notice!". My friends live in an apartment complex that has strict rules on number of occupants in an apartment, etc..., and cannot put my name on the mailbox, as it would get them into trouble. I am not living there, I just want to get all school-related mail there (My local post office has previously "lost" two letters from my school in as many weeks). And with student loan checks being sent out soon, I don’t want to risk it. Is it legal for the carrier to REFUSE to deliver mail to this address, simply because my name isn’t on the mailbox? (USA, Ohio). Thank you for your answer.
Why is the Inspector Generals office so lax in prosecuting Postal workers compensation fraud? I have given documentation to the head Inspector in Chicago of a worker defrauding the system for over two years and the best they do is tell him to come back to work on light duty 4 hours a shift at $53,000 a year and he calls in sick at least 1 to 2 times a week if not more. No wonder postage is going up. One: You know what, they had over 700 cases in year 2004 and only prosecuted 40 some, lol. Bend over and grab your ankles America.
Finger covers for using hands a lot (Postal workers)? My Mom is a postal worker and she has to sift through a lot of mail and it makes her fingers get worn out and crack. She can't wear gloves because they get sweaty, and often leave her without enough dexterity. I saw on some movie once a lady wearing these little fingertip covers, but I don't know what they're called or where you would find any. Does anyone know where I can find some or have any other suggestions? She uses lotion but it doesn't help.
Postal Workers: Would you take a gift from a resident? I've often thought of leaving my postal carrier a bottle of water, an reeses cup or a thank you card. How do I let them know to take it for themselves? My postal worker is female. No I don't need a backdoor relationship. Making one person happy is challenging enough. :)) I do think you should give credit where its do though. She is always on time. Will give a little knock when my packages come, not just leave it in the weather, and she's friendly.
The postal workers "Stamp out Hunger" campaign? is taking place on May 12, 2007. What do you think are good ideas for donations of perishable foods. I was going to use a them of either breakfast lunch dinner or one meal to prepare a donation. For the first one i thought boxed pancakes with fruit, tuna w/crackers for lunch and for dinner spaghetti sauce with spaghetti. What are your ideas and do you plan to participate by leaving food for your local carrier to pick up Let me clarify; the pancakes are a pancake mix in a box, think Aunt Jemina where you add water and cook! The postal carrier is correct-all donated items should be non perishable and not in glass or easily punctured packaging. You would also want to pack things for hauling as they will be handled by the carrier twice and then by the agency receiving the donation where they will likely be sorted and then given to needy families!
Should these postal workers be allowed to hold us to ransom? Just so thay can continue to get their perks from archaice working practices that shoild have been stopped years ago Just as an adendum, there are plenty of private companies willing to deliver the mail, maybe we should give private enterprise a chance.
Can a postal worker refuse to deliver mail? The post office of a small town has refused to bring mail in to the local high school or pick up mail if it requires them to leave their vehicle. They say they will charge per step in and out to do this. Any postal workers out there know if they can do this, and if so the best recourse to take?
what is the law in regard to the security of information that postal workers have daily access to ......? Postal workers see the publications and all kinds of post being delivered to our addresses. They can easily build up a profile of each individual. So can they be prosecuted for discussing this with people who have no right to this information. For example unfriendly neighbours.Or any political organisation they might belong to which builds up its strength through these kinds of contacts. Are we safe from right wing or left wing forces when postal workers are freely discussing our possible allegiances.
Postal workers, please help - what would you do? Mail was stolen by a carrier and the crime was covered up by his supervisor. The Inspector General's Office opened the case, but did not follow through or crack the case. The evidence was quite obvious. Who else would you contact? Who would be above the Inspector General? ****** FYI - The Postal Inspectors do nothing about "inside" crime anymore. They were the first people notified. As of January 2007, Postal Inspectors do not investigate cases where carriers are the thieves. The Inspector General's Office handles that.
Why are the U.S. Postal Workers backing Obama ? I have noticed many "U.S. Postal Workers Backing Obama" signs. The U.S. Post Office is a Federal Agency, and a non bias one. So who deemed the postal worker to be Obama supporters ? My apologies - I should have stressed that these signs are made specifically for the U.S. Post office. They are not "Obama" signs. They are professionally prepared signs that state "U.S. Postal Workers Backing Obama."

How is the postal worker service exam graded? I was told that the postal worker service exam for mail carriers is made of several sections, with the self survey making up a huge portion of the test. Does anybody know how the test is graded? How many points do they give for the memory test and how many points do they give for the self survey? My neighbor took the test and all he got back was a letter with a score of 70 percent or something like that on it, but no other information on how he performed on each individual part of the test. What does the percentage score mean?
Why are postal workers so cranky? When I recieved my mail today from my mail-man he freaked out on me for ordering so many free-samples. And yelled that he was tired of having to get out of his truck!
How do I lodge a complaint against my postal worker? My husband and I have been having a lot of problems with our mail delivery. We continually find our box open, and mail has been left on top of the box or on the ground! I know it is the carrier and not neighborhood kids, because I have gone out right after the mail has come and the box will be open. How do I lodge a complaint against my lazy postal worker?? I am ready to go postal!!
Postal Workers Hours? I was curious as to what type of hours that postal workers work. I know the mentality of a lot of people including myself thinks that they work Monday through Saturday till around 430pm. Know I know that if this were true everyone would want to work for them.
Requirements for becoming a postal worker? I am considering applying to be a postal worker and am wondering about the requirements. Someone mentioned that they give you a physical, so I am wondering if you have to be within a certain weight range? I am an active, healthy person but like many others I do have a few extra pounds. so does this mean they will no consider me, does anyone know?
