What's up? Postal rates increasing for some magazines and not others, so harder for us to get variety of news? Postal regulators have accepted a scheme designed in part by lobbyists for the Time Warner media conglomerate. In short, mailing costs for mega-magazines like Time Warner's own Time, People and Sports Illustrated will go up only slightly or decrease. But smaller publications like The Nation will be hit by an enormous rate increase of half a million dollars a year. For The Nation, $500,000 a year is a lot of money. Believe me, I know. I’ve been working at the magazine for over 20 years. The pay ain’t great. But there are few media outlets that allow their writers and reporters the freedom to go beyond the headlines and take on the powers that be—to ask inconvenient questions and pursue uncomfortable truths. But starting July 15, 2007, The Nation will face this whopping postal rate hike. Not to be melodramatic, but this rate increase is a threat to democratic discourse. Why should magazines that can afford high-powered lobbyists receive preferential treatment? This rise in mailing costs will make it harder for the magazine to deliver the investigative reporting and independent-minded journalism upon which you depend. (Take my word; I see the editors and publishing people in our New York office freaking out about this postal rate hike and discussing possible cutbacks.) The magazine is fighting this corporate-driven, unfair and anti-democratic increase as best it can. It has joined forces with conservative publications in an attempt to beat back the rigged rate structure. (Imagine Katrina vanden Heuvel and Rich Lowry, the editor of National Review, working together!) But even if we “win”—which, I’m told, is a long shot—The Nation will still face hundreds of thousands of dollars in additional postage. Source: David Corn, The Nation
Is there going to be a postal strike in London? I'm sure I heard something on the news the past 2 weeks about postal workers voting for a strike but when I googled there was nothing about a strike this year. I just wanna know because I have parcels to post to friends in London this month, I'll send them early if there's going to be a strike. I was hoping someone would know when it was but it sounds like it hasn't been decided yet.
Should the US Postal Service be privatized? A professional organization who's goal is to provide the best service and make the most profit, rather than the way the government runs a business- protecting jobs of deadwood workers who fit certain profiles, a disconnect from providing quality service and extreme arrogance, as all government organizations operate. Possibly, the socialists in America would be embarrassed if the postal system were managed better, made a profit and the public noticed the improved service, once it was freed from government control. People would figure out government through ObamaCare will make health care costs increase rather than buy into the propaganda created by the proponents of socialized medicine. Although demand for postal service is decreasing due to e-mail and other technologies, its obvious the government is not qualified to change with our times. Do you think the public would get better service if the postal system were turned over to be run by a professional organization like Fed-Ex? http://news.yahoo.com/postal-loses-5-1-billion-fiscal-2011-232706243.html Sammy- the postal service follows the same path as all government operations and is not run like a business, its run like government, you are splitting hairs, the USPS is nothing like Fed Ex and you know it.
Do you think the postal service is getting better or worse? Simple question, is the postal service better or worse than it was a few years ago. http://www.morningstaronline.co.uk/index.php/news/features/What-s-the-mail-strike-about And are postal workers right or wrong to take action over the changes?
Where is the nearest postal box at Jamestown way E14 2DA? It doesnt have to be a post office could be a News Agent long as they have a postal box for me to drop my letter...I couldn't find any within walking distance...thank you. online only i found out the actual post office not the nearest postal box walking within walking distance?
Do you feel like American News is turning into tabloid trash like England? In England their news is more about tabloids and taking pictures of royalty in awkward scenarios rather then reporting actual current events. In America it's coming to that point where the average News company is reporting about tiger woods instead of US Postal Service bail outs and other current events.
Can local and world news affect a person's behavior? Just because you don't keep up with the news, good or bad, doesn't mean your co-worker, family member, neighbor, friend, and even stranger doesn't also. One day, you might find out they'll either hug you or go postal on you. Can local and world news do that to a person? What do you think??
How come nobody is talking or fighting for the 200,000 postal jobs that could be lost? they make them pay their penion ahead for 75 years , and then act like they are in more trouble than they are. they could ease those penion mandatory payments and make some moderate changes. what are they going to do with those penion funds. somebody stands to lose 500,000 votes. why is fox news and cnn.news not reporting anything. It almost seems the the republicans had this planed when they made it manditory to prepay pension funds 75 years ahead. nobody is making any noise on this , why , why, why,
Who gives news programmes on tv the right to promote privatisation? The sale of Leeds - Bradford airport was on one 'episode', and talked about excitedly by the presenter, who had remained impartial to every story until then. I always think that they are trying to generate postal activity with complaints. The also are run by people that believe a person is alive to be animated. Holly baker 20 - it was a woman. And behind every rogue, successful (or not) man are a lot of women.
Does anyone actually agree with the postal strike? Hopefully it's all sorted now but I just wanted to check whether anyone agreed with the postal workers going on strike? I only know what I've heard on the news and I may be wrong but it seems that they want more pay, a better pension scheme and flexible work conditions so they still get paid if they go home early. Well it seems ridiculous that they should get paid for not doing anything... not many other jobs offer this! I don't know how much they get paid but it's not like they're doing brain surgery. I just think strikes are very immature. It's not like nurses and doctors can go on strike because if they did, people would die. They deserve more pay and better conditions more than anyone... it just seems stupid that postal workers should have more power than people as important as doctors and nurses. I have no sympathey for them... it's not like they're particularly skilled or have had to pay thousands in university fees to do what they do. What do you think? Storm... By 'not particularly skilled' I meant compared to doctors and nurses they aren't. I'm not saying they don't work hard because I'm sure they do. This may sound a bit harsh but almost anyone could do their job... a doctor could become a postal worker but a postal worker couldn't become a doctor unless they study hard for years and pay a small fortune to do so. I just think these people, especially nurses, have more of a 'right' to go on strike but they don't because they need to think of the public... something postal workers should be doing. Please tell me how the government is $hitting on them... if you could give me examples of how badly they are treated etc then I may change my mind. Thanks for some interesting answers. I don't think that the fact that others wouldn't want to do their job is reason enough for them to be able to go on strike while nurses can't though. I don't want to be a nurse or a postal worker but you choose your job because that's your personal preference and your preference shouldn't hold a bearing on how much you get paid... it should be dependant on the training and work you do. If everyone thought that people should have more rights because no one wants to do their job then we'd have cleaners being paid the same amount as doctors. There has to be some incentive for people who train hard to get where they are. ru/newto... Ok please then tell me why they have gone on strike. I'd love to sympathise with them but so far their resoning seems childish to me. I would genuinly like to know how they are being mistreated to make them go on strike like this?
Has anyone else experienced a Delay in postal service from the UK? My grandmother sent a package to me (im in the US and live on the east coast) it usually takes about 10-15 days to reach me but it's been 3 weeks now, has anyone else had a problem with getting late packages from England. They had snow, we had snow and obviously the holiday season could have effected things but I know she would be heartbroken if it didn't reach us and I'd like to give her good news
What if there was no US Postal Service? I saw a news story this past week talking about the USPS raising prices and making cuts to services again. It made me wonder: is the USPS still even necessary? There are other private organizations who can handle delivery services, right? Vern86: read what you just wrote again, more carefully. This does not REQUIRE a postal service. It gives Congress the power to make one. That is different.
Anybody else think that the Postal Service shouldn't stop the mail on Tuesday? I couldn't believe this when I read in on the news this morning. If they have no mail on Tuesday, There will be no mail for 3 days several times a year when Holiday's fall on Mondays. That crazy! Personally I think the Postal employees make way too much money. I think they need a pay reduction instead of putting everyone else out. Thing is they are still going to raise the stamps up to 44 cents in a couple months. Why?
Have you heard this about the United States Postal Service? They may go from 6 day delivery to 5 day delivery. When I first saw this I was thinking Saturday delivery may be cut, but they are talking about Tuesday, since it is the slowest day for delivery. They say that not much mail is sent out on Saturday or Sunday, so Tuesday may be the chosen day. I heard on the news tonight that this may be a possibility, as the post office is suffering financially. Alex B. I totally agree with you on ways the Government and businesses can cut costs. If I go to any country outside the USA, I expect to be able to speak their language, read their language or not go at all. It gets to me that everything has to be in Spanish, even the phone systems, where you have to dial 1 or say the number 1 to hear English. Joe J this means you will get more junk mail the next day. Joanie, I would miss my 6 day a week mail service. When there is no Monday or holiday delivery, the week seems extra long for me. I look forward to catalogs, (which we are getting fewer) due to the internet. I hate shopping on the internet. I like to thumb through look at all my choices so I can mark and select the item(s) I would like to purchase. Mindbird, it is amazing how much mail goes through the system for the price we pay for services.
I from the US, what is going on w/your postal system in the UK? I keep seeing these posts on here about your postal system. I googled it a little, but I don't understand how you are getting your mail? Or are you? Can you pick it up yourself at the post office? I can't imagine how this is effecting businesses and citizens There is nothing on the American TV news about this. And yes Y?A mixes the US site /the UK/Ireland site on Current events.
What is the current postal rate? Here in work, our receptionist says she heard on the news it is 45 cents, starting Monday Jan 23. I haven't heard anything, except it will be 45 cents in March. She says it went up now, instead. What is it?
How should the postal service be reformed? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHfddvbKb4w The reforms so far seem to have made the service worse, not better. http://www.morningstaronline.co.uk/index.php/news/britain/Red-letter-day-as-postal-staff-vote-for-strikes How do you think things should be improved? http://www.morningstaronline.co.uk/index.php/news/britain/More-postal-strikes-to-begin
Postal deliveries affected by flooding? hmmm, a bit worried. I hope this doesnt seem frantically superficial considering what so many people are going through.. I am waiting for a delivery postally of some stuff for an event I am in on Wednesday (should have been here Saturday, sent from London), and I am trying to find out news on how postal deliveries are running/ not running with all the floods - I undertand London is fairly OK as things stand, and we are OK here in Devon, but its the inbetween.. I wondered if anyone on here has any news on how the posties are affected. ....! Theres no news on the Royal Mail website, or on Ebay news.... Not sure where else to check.... Hope youre all OK in the rains, guys! And thanks for any info. :)
Postal Service employees losing jobs? I heard on the news yesterday (on a radio station) that the Postal Service is going to let go either 400 or 4,000 employees. Have you heard this? Do you think it's true? I'm just curious.
Why are post office workers more stressed than other professions? For example it was in the news last week that a postal worker committed suicide on a local train track, and the term "postal" comes from instances where they shoot co-workers out of rage. Is there job particularly stressful or cause insanity?? I think it's sad.
What's the worst thing that almost happened to your child/baby? ...but everything turned out okay. I'm thinking of the news story of a postal worker standing at a doorstep and suddenly a toddler falls from the second floor into her arms. I hope no one else has had it that bad and that close! What's the worst thing that almost happened to your child/baby?
How would you resolve the post Strikes? My suggestion is to sack all the strikers and employ some of the millions who are on the dole. Their spokesperson said the strikes are about saving the postal service, however if he were to tell the truth instead of lie he would say the reason for the strike is that postal workers who are employed for eight hours, being paid for eight hours, are being asked by their employers to work eight hours. How outrageous asking people to work the hours they are paid for. The truth of it all is that the strikers will ensure that when the Conservatives take power the postal service will be privatised and that will be good news for every hard working person who are currently suffering bad postal services but very bad news for the dinosaurs.. Bruce M, pushing letters through letter boxes seems a very easy way to earn a living, although given that all that Royal Mail want you to do is the eight hours you are paid for, I guess the job must be easier than I thought. Jory I think you may have the answer. Ss I say cant wait for it to be privatised, then they will have to work their eight hours, not knock of early and do another job. elmbeard, the will be able to force out the current management when its privatised, although then half of them will loose the cushy job they now have Derek B you say half of them do overtime, it would help if they worked the hours they were paid for, there would be no need for overtime then, still I guess that would be too much to ask.
So the postal strike was about money? or is it a pay off to keep quiet? The main issue I was told about of the postal strike was the disdain of the modernisation process. However, the latest deal has no change but, a nice pay rise. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8556487.stm
OMG! Postal Rates going up again....were you aware of this? Yes, starting tomorrow Monday May 14 the government takes another bite out of our wallet. THE HEADLINE: Americans will pay 2 cents more to mail a first-class letter beginning May 14, but they will be able to buy a new type of stamp that could shield them from future price increases. THE STORY: http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2007-03-19-postal-rates_N.htm more: http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/05/13/mail.shape.ap/index.html It's true this is not NEW news but... Until I was reminded this morning by reading the news article, I had my mail ready to go with the OLD postage of 39 cents. (then I had to go hunting for some 1 cent stamps I know I had stashed...somewhere)
Should the U.S. Postal Service add kilts as a uniform option for men? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080807/ap_on_fe_st/odd_postal_kilt One postal worker is campaigning for the right to take off his pants. He wants the U.S. Postal Service to add kilts as a uniform option for men. "Unbifurcated Garments are far more comfortable and suitable to male anatomy than trousers or shorts because they don't confine the legs or cramp the male genitals the way that trousers or shorts do," he wrote. "Please open your hearts — and inseams — for an option in mail carrier comfort!"
How do I get the government to acknowledge my declaration of World Domination? I have sent letters to the governments of every country in the world saying that I am there new ruler. I have also sent several letters to the news media. However, they have yet to respond. How do I get them to acknowledge by new empire and submit to me? Is this some sort of conspiracy pulled off by postal workers?
Do postal votes allow more coercion / blackmail to take place? I've always loved voting by post - no guilty feeling on plling day when you realise you've left it too late to go and vote - but this story made me think. "The BBC has spoken to one woman who says male relatives told her who to vote for while other women had been made to sign already-completed forms. Her claim has been backed up by Respect Councillor Salma Yaqoob, who represents Birmingham's Sparkbrook ward. She said women in the city were being "emotionally blackmailed" and the only solution was to abolish postal voting." What are your thoughts? :-) http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west_midlands/7428438.stm
Has the increase in internet shopping empowered the postal workers? http://uk.news.yahoo.com/4/20090806/tuk-25-000-postal-workers-to-strike-in-p-dba1618.html Go posties!!!!! I hope they get what they fight for. Year on year, so they say, more and more people spend money on-line. Which means that somebody has to get the goods from the point of supply to the door of the customers. Which means delivery systems hold more and more power. I reckon we could be leaving the age of aquarius and entering the age of the white van man. What do you think? Are you for the posties, or against?
Govt-run Postal service needs to cut services by 16% and close offices. Still want govt-run health care? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090325/ap_on_go_ot/postal_woes Excerpts: Even if the agency succeeds in reaching its planned cost cuts of $5.9 billion, there could still be a $6 billion deficit in 2010, Potter told the House Oversight Subcommittee on the Federal Work Force and Postal Service. He estimated that delivering mail five days-a-week instead of six would save $3.5 billion per year. Dan Blair, head of the independent Postal Regulatory Commission, suggested in his testimony that other savings could be realized through closing small and rural post offices — something Congress has resisted in the past. He added that it may be necessary to increase the limit on the amount of debt the post office can carry. PJ, there is a difference between increasing efficiency...which the private sector does best...and actual cutting back of services. In this case, they are cutting back services. Yes, they are doing what they can to increase efficiency, but the fact is that the USPS has never been self-sustaining. It could not function or compete without a constant infusion of taxpayer dollars. When the necessary infusion exceeds what Congress is willing to pay, there is a cutback in services and an increase in customer prices (i.e., postage). But there is no competition for most of their services, so the consumer has no where else to turn to make up for the lost services. This is the same position patients will be put in under nationalized health care. If competition is eliminated by fiat, patients whose services have been rationed away by the government will have nowhere else to turn. Huckleberry, let's look at the examples you raised a bit more closely. First, the cars manufacturers. If Ford and GM were to close shop tomorrow, would that cut off the supply of autos to the people who need them? Of course not. People would buy Toyotas or Nissans...maybe even BMW would try to get into the lower priced car markets if they see an opening. Contrast that with the post office or socialized health care. If one local hospital closes, or if the government determines that the services you need are not on its shopping list, then you have NOWHERE else to turn. There is no competitor waiting to cash in on the new opening in the market. That is the danger of any govenrment monopoly. To continue, Huckleberry, when Bear Sterns went under, it was bought out by JP Morgan Chase. When the medical system is in distress (as every government-sponsored service is, eventually), who will be there to buy it out? Who will pick up the pieces? A government bailout? Oh, wait...it will already be owned and operated by the government. As for AIG, is there anyone out there in the world who cannot get insurance or financial services right now? No? Why not? Because the market will fill in the cracks if it is allowed to do so. This is not true with the post office; that's why its only option now is to cut services. And that will be the only option under socialized medicine for the medical industry. The president is wrong about the culture of greed destroying us. In a free market, greed generally works to everyone's advantage. Government combines greed with coercive force, which makes for decisions based, not on what's best for production, but on avoiding punishment. nbeneschmitz, haven’t we had enough of fat cat, wasteful, pasty greedy Congressmen and bureaucrats telling us how to live our lives? I find it interesting that you describe nationalized health care as an “option.” Under nationalized health care, there is no option. And if you want to go around the world and check what “works” and what doesn’t, I suggest you look in our own backyard. First, look at Cuba. There are two Cubas when it comes to health care or other services: the Cuba that gets good care, and the regular Cuba. Foreigners never see the rancid holes that pass for hospitals for the regular Cubans, but there are plenty of websites that document the squalor. OK, so Communist Cuba is not a good example? How about socialized Canada? Their Supreme Court found the health care system inadequate to the point of violating the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms (Canada’s “Bill of Rights”). Read the Canadian Supreme Court decision in Chaoulli v. Quebec, wherein the Canadian Supreme Court held that, given the sometimes life-threatening waiting times for certain medical treatments in Canada, it is a violation of human rights to deny an individual the option of private health care. Below are some quotes from the decision: “...delays in the public health care system are widespread, and that, in some serious cases, patients die as a result of waiting lists for public health care. The evidence also demonstrates that the prohibition against private health insurance and its consequence of denying people vital health care result in physical and psychological suffering that meets a threshold test of seriousness. "...the government has prohibited private health insurance that would permit ordinary Quebeckers to access private health care while failing to deliver health care in a reasonable manner, thereby increasing the risk of complications and death.... ".... In so doing, it has interfered with the interests protected by [Section 7] of the Canadian Charter." Please read the entire case and then decide whether you trust a “benign” nationalized health care system to attend to your medical needs in the long term. But you don’t even have to cross the borders to see how nationalized health care doesn’t work. Medical care for the elderly (Medicaid) and for the poor (Medicare) has been effectively nationalized since 1964. The result? Health care costs doubled for everyone within 5 years. They have doubled again since, due mostly to the steps the government has taken to ration certain aspects of the health care system (e.g., the DRG system). And that’s still not stemming the tide; Medicare and Medicaid, according to President Obama, are collectively the Number One drain on this economy. Individual states are also similarly burdened. So the most socialized portions of our health care system are in the worst shape. As for your assertion that our jobs would stop going overseas if only we had nationalized health care, I would ask you to do the math. If we nationalized health care, who do you think would end up paying for it? It would be the job-creating sector of the economy. It wouldn’t come out of their pockets directly, but in the form of higher taxes and higher debts. They would then have to move away just so they could go to where wages were lower, standards were more lax, and labor laws are less strict. (I’m not justifying this; just explaining why it happens and will be worse if we nationalize medicine.) Nationalized health care is not the panacea you think it is. J.J., the postal service has lost money and has required taxpayer supplements since before the computer was invented. It has survived by being the only game in town...i.e., because it was a government-enforced monopoly, which gave its customers no other choice. dinodino, you missed the point. No one is saying that there won’t be companies failing in the private sector. But when they do fail, there is some other company eager to pick up the slack. So, when GM finally stops producing cars, there won’t be a shortage of cars. When Enron stopped brokering fuels, there was no shortage of fuels (there was an interruption in supply, but nothing serious). However, when the government becomes the only supplier of...say...MRIs, and the government decides that you don’t get to have an MRI, you will have nowhere else to go. So there is a big difference between private sector suppliers and government monopolies. Bryan, I agree that there are better arguments against nationalized health care. I just pulled the Post Office argument off yesterday’s headlines, that’s all. I’m just pointing out that, whenever something is placed in the hands of the government, streamlining means “cutting back services.” But streamlining in the private sector generally means cutting out excess management or other fat without affecting services. That’s because if you don’t provide services, someone else will. The government doesn’t have to worry about competition, though, so they can cut services whenever they have a budget crisis. Agree completely with you on VA and Medicare...as noted above. Thanks for your input. nbeneschmitz, I see your name is now Nostradamus02012, so I'm just noting that so your answer can be tracked to my comment. Please feel free to respond with an edit of your answer.
Will our Postal Service be the next big bailout? Excerpts: Can the Postal Service be Saved? It's been an ugly few years for the United States Postal Service. The quasi-government agency announced this week that it lost $3.8 billion in the most recent fiscal year, which ended September 30th. It also delivered less mail - 26 billion fewer pieces less, a nearly 13 percent drop from the previous year. The bad news follows losses totaling $7.8 billion in 2007 and 2008. The Postal Service, as it is quick to point out, is legally prohibited from taking tax dollars. But in order to stay afloat, the agency has been actively borrowing from the U.S. Treasury: At last count, according to Postal Service spokeswoman Yvonne Yoerger, it owes the government $10.2 billion. Federal law dictates that the Postal Service can borrow up to $3 billion per year - but the debt cannot grow beyond $15 billion. That means that while the agency, which had revenues of $68.1 billion last year, could potentially borrow another $3 billion in 2010, it will soon no longer be able to legally borrow billions from the government. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/11/19/politics/main5711797.shtml Would the answer be for our government to allow UPS and some of the other major carriers to bid and take over various regions? They would have to increase their hiring, something that would likely save many postal jobs that are now being abolished due to lack of funds. What are your thoughts?
Is the Postal Service another failed government program? The quasi-government agency announced this week that it lost $3.8 billion in the most recent fiscal year, which ended September 30th. Why is it that when a person is murdered it gets more attention then someone who dies in a war? If a person is killed by a mass murderer or serial killer it's in the news as a top story and sometimes appears for days, but when people are killed in wars the only coverage it gets is usually bottom line articles. If someone gets killed in a "postal" shooting it will be top story and in the news for days. When "30 people killed in helicopter bombing" it's always a low-down on news sites or just gets a paragraph or so in news papers. So what is it that makes being murdered so much more traumatic and worse than dying in a war? Actually with a war we don't know who is to blame. Should an entire country be blamed for the killing of a person in a war? Like Vietnam, should the entire US be blamed for the killing on the many innocent people and children killed. Not everyone (American soldiers) were their by choice, a lot of them were drafted into the position. "In a war you expect people to die. However, when someone is murdered it's unexpected. It also makes headlines because it's something that could potentially happen to anyone who is just walking along minding their own business. It's sensationalism. It's scary." So if there is a black family living next door to a "proud white power" man, would it then come as a surprise if he decided one night to go kill the whole family in their sleep? Just because you expect people to die does that mean they shouldn't get attention for it? I've seen prostitutes that get more media coverage for being killed then a soldier at war. So being killed in a war makes you a statistic but being one of, let's say Gacy's 33 victims doesn't? How about being one of the undetermined amount (at least 80) of Lucas's victims? Should that get you special news coverage? A death is a death, one should not get treated with more attention than the other just because it wasn't expected. People should expect death at any time, be that in your bed when you're 90 or at the knife or a lust-murdered when you're 14. Always expect the unexpected.

Was it a liberal who came up with the idea to arm Postal workers? ...with water pistols? MADISON, Wis. - Rather than rain or snow, or even dogs, postal workers in a West Side neighborhood near Owen Conservation Park are being pestered by wild turkeys this spring. Mara Wilhite, manager of the Hilldale Station Post Office, said she expected to deal with all manner of issues when she went to work for the U.S. Post Office. But that was not one of them. "Just when you thought you'd heard it all," she said. Postal workers were armed with water pistols. But Lober said that, while the squirts of water worked for a while, the turkeys now seem accustomed to it. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080407/ap_on_fe_st/odd_postal_turkeys Gee, imagine that....another failed liberal idea: "Lets give them squirt guns" How about a conservative solution (i.e. one that actually works): firearms
How many Labour rotten boroughs are there? Straw's seat is a hot-spot of postal vote fraud claims "This is very much a Labour rotten borough," he said. Do You Approve of Bush opening private U.S. Mail? Doesn't it violate the Constitution and our postal laws? Republican Senator Sue Collins is reported to be upset that Bush is trying to get away with this, after Bush attached a statement to her postal protection law. Bush's illegal activiy is not what the Republican Senator intended with her postal bill, and she wants to know what Bush is up to and why. Collins responded, "The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 and our federal criminal rules require prior judicial approval before domestic sealed mail can be searched," she said. As reported by AP: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070105/ap_on_go_pr_wh/opening_the_mail Yes, I did read the disclaimer by Bush, about 'not changing existing laws, etc.' but we all know Bush has lied to his country and to his party before, so why beleive him now -- it's another 'just trust me on this', moment for Bush and his gang. Please note that it's Republican Senators who are angry this time -- when will some of you wake up, if ever?
This is a joke question, and it's for the "Guys". Re: bad news? I had an Idea that all bad news delivered to single guys be done via "Striper-Gram". Imagine this, You go into work, The Boss needs to see you and then Blam! "Jones, You're fired!". That stinks. But now this senario. You go into work, get to your office/ cubicle/ whatever, and then there's a bit of a hush. Kinda like a suprise birthday party for someone there. Then a girl you haven't seen before rips her top off and says "Hurray....You're being downsized". Nobody would go "Postal" getting fired that way. In fact I couldn't wait to tell the boss "Exactly" what I thought of him were that the case. Remember...this is a joke question. I don't wanna hear about how I'm sexist or anything. So is it a good idea or a bad one? you tell me.
Will we have a postal service left? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/north_yorkshire/7756231.stm First it was the closure of post offices transferring surrounding village use to one big office and long queues, now its downsizing the system yet again. Views tvm
How do you feel about Dumbya's latest destruction of the US Constitution? How do you feel about a signing statement attached to postal legislation by President Bush last month that could allow the Government to open your mail without a warrant? (full article is on Yahoo! News and CNN right now if you aren't familiar with it) I personally don't get anything other than bills and stuff I buy online right now... however, if I was writing personal letters to a GF, I would be severely pissed that someone opened and read it simply because it became "legal" to do so.
What magazines come to your home? What magazines do you subscribe to? Our house: National Geographic, Natural History, Archaeology, New Scientist, Science News, Highlights, Texas Monthly, Smithsonian, a Taste of Home, various professional journals for the two adults' professions, and dozens of catalogs, most of which I have never ever ordered from. (hit a high of 33 catalogs in one day just before the holidays last year). Our postal carrier hates us, I think. Maybe not, maybe she looks at it as job security.

Internet security from your own parents? I have heard all the stories on the news websites-about how parents track everything thier kids do on the computer. I must say that I am very scared, not becasue of the danger of predators, but of the parents themselves. I have read the stories of the parents who say that they give their kids no privacy. They say that they install programs that track keystrokes, evasdrop on IM's, and even hack into their kids' personal emails. In my opinion, reading someone else's email is worse that stealing their postal mail. I'm 14-the prime age for an Internet predator and therefore the perfect target of overprotective parents. My parents are nice people and I trust they would never do such an invasive thing as to hack into my email. I have nothing really worth hiding, but I am worried that they may be spying on me. How can I tell if they are? And if so, should I confront them about it?
Mailman sentenced to probation for refusing to deliver junk mail? Apparently "Mailman Steve" has not delivered junk mail to his postal customers since 1999. While I do understand there are several postal laws he violated, I think the man deserves a medal for public service! http://www.newsobserver.com/news/crime_safety/story/1301068.html

Illegals going postal now? http://www.journal-news.com/news/content/news/stories/2006/07/14/HJN071506construction_s.html 'They just want a better life they don't hurt nobody'. Of course the majority don't, but given stepped up violence on the border against Americans you'd think Bush would notice. There is a supreme irony here. If the construction company owner was beaten and threatened by 8 white supremacists because he hired illegals, it would make front page news with hate cirme spilled all over the country from one end to the other. He still got the beating, still got threatened, still had 8 guys jump him, and for the same reason, hiring illegals http://www.saveourstate.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=14234 Mexico, I beleive you Mr. Stomp illegal immigration is more dangerous to America than hezbolla right now. The illegals are trenched in and the claws are coming out - you don't know about the proposed Latin Congress in CA, when Hezbolla comes over here like the illegals then maybe.

Perhaps the original postage was enough? Anyone else think that maybe, just maybe, the original postage was plenty, considering it took 93 years for the USPS to finally deliver this card? Rather than adding postage to it for today's postal rates, seems like they should owe the recipient! lol http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071215/ap_on_fe_st/odd_long_lost_card No, they didn't charge the recipient. Just thought it was kind of funny that it required extra postage, no matter who paid for it.
How about this? Lets arm all the news paper carriers and postal workers from Texas and send them to the middle east. I'm sure the B.S. over there would be over in less than a week!
Can a bad experience with racism turn a Latino into a militant Hispanic supremacist? I wasn't this way before but a few bad experiences have turned me into a very angry person and it's scares me sometimes. And now with all the anti-immigrant things you here on the news I think that there's some kind of conspiracy, I know I have mental problems and I'm taking meds for it that my doctor gave me. I start counseling next week. What could be wrong with me? I get into arguments online with people who hate immigrants and I feel like im gonna explode but then I calm my self down. I have white friends and I don't hate them but some people make me so angry and my biggest fear is that it could progress and god forbid a few years down the road I do something crazy like those shooters I see on the news that go postal and stuff. I wish I knew why I'm so depressed and angry at society :( They put me on seroquel and paxil but sometimes id rather drink vodka than take pills. Do you I have schizophrenia or something? I'm 30 and I still live with my mom and she worries alot about me :(
(UK) Where can I get new car registration plates done tomorrow (Saturday) ? I need new plates, front and rear. Theres a postal strike so I can forget about getting one of the online companies to make up new plates. My car failed MOT on it's plates. And no, they are not altered to space out special word or anything, as they are same plates I got with the car brand new. It's just that new MOT regulations which came in this month (1st Oct 2007) means number plates have to have British Standard mark and the name and postcode of the plate supplier. http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/210559/registration_plates.html Any suggestions on where I could try to get new plates done tomorrow? Thanks.
Can the Feds open mail without warrants? President Bush has "quietly claimed sweeping new powers to open Americans’ mail without a judge’s warrant," the New York Daily News writes this morning. When he put his signature on a postal reform bill on Dec. 20, the newspaper notes, the president added a "signing statement" that "declared his right to open people’s mail under emergency conditions." The key phrase in that statement: "The executive branch shall construe subsection 404(c) of title 39, as enacted by subsection 1010(e) of the Act, which provides for opening of an item of a class of mail otherwise sealed against inspection, in a manner consistent, to the maximum extent permissible, with the need to conduct searches in exigent circumstances, such as to protect human life and safety against hazardous materials, and the need for physical searches specifically authorized by law for foreign intelligence collection."

Do you agree the guy convicted of the postal anthrax was falsely framed/convicted by the FBI and murdered????? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080801/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/anthrax_scientist I don't think he killed himself - I think he was murdered. They started investigating him 6 years after the fact, and the only evidence they had was he was doing some experiments about it for a few months after the attack. Well duh, his whole career is on anthrax, if he studied what happened after the fact, that seems normal. It reminds me how the "DC Madame" also commited "suicide" as did the Whitwater guy and so many others in Washington whose friends and family say are shocked because they did not seem suicidal. Heather, Steven Hatfill was aquited after he sued the gov. $5.80 mil for falsely accusing him of the anthrax, after which they went after Bruce who supposedly then commited suicide and within days they are closing the anthrax case as solved!!!!!!!!! SOMETHING IS SERIOUSLY NOT RIGHT!
