How long will the USPS forward packages to my new address? Will the USPS forward packages sent Priority Mail?
Public Comments
- Yes, priority mail will be forwarded for the same period of time that first class mail will be forwarded, which is one year. Parcel post is forwardable, but not free of charge. Sometimes mailers use certain endorsements on packages, and depending on the endorsement, the package may be returned to the sender with the new address information. These endorsements are mainly used by companies, not private individuals. They are in effect saying, 'We want the correct address and we will pay for the information." This may cause a delay in getting your package.
- in my area of U.S. post office will forward mail for 2 months You fill out a form at post office giving them your new address
- The first answer you have here is almost perfect. However, I would add one thing. A Change of Address is actually active for 18 months. For the first 12 months, items will be forwarded to you with appropriate charges where required. More than 12 months, but less than 18 months, everything is returned to the sender with your new address information because the "Forwarding Time is Expired. After 18 months, everything is returned to the sender, Undeliverable as addressed.
