How can I stop unwanted mail addressed to a previous tenant?
I am getting a lot of mail for several previous tenants. I don't have any forwarding addresses and some of the mail looks pretty important. writing on envelope and sending back does not work

- open the letters (illegal) reply to the sender telling them the past tennant has died in a terrible accident in africa, he was trying to feed a baby gazelle to lions when the gazelles mother kicked him to death
- You just mark each of them NOT AT THIS ADDRESS, and throw them back in the post office box (where you would mail a letter). This redirects the mail to the dead mail office of the post office, where they would either send it to the re-direct address that the recipient registered with them, or return it to sender.
- When I first moved I just wrote "wrong address, return to sender" and left them all on the box for the mail lady to pick up again. After some time of this alot of it stopped.
- sorry, your dealing w/beaurocrats. you'll be wasteing your time. Write NOT THIS ADDRESS on letter and let P.O deal w/ problem
- Simply write Not known at this address / Return to sender on the envlopes (after crossing out the address) and put back in a post box. (Mailbox if in US)
- Write "Moved, no forwarding address" on each envelope and put them back in the mail. If you have a regular mail carrier, that you can catch, talk to them for further assistance or advice.
- write on all no longer at address, and there may be some which wont be sealed ? look for some contact details and speak to them direct, real pain this is had it myself, think if you contact the royal mail customer services, they will be able to assist, you must get this sorted,as could affect you credit rating at later on,ive put to link below these SHOULD help, kind regards.
- No but I would like to know as I am having the same problem.
- Inform the post office, and specifically your mailman. Put the letters back in your mailbox for pickup with a note on them asking the postman to take care of the problem. Good luck. It takes a while. Maggie
- Just write 'Not Known at This Address' or 'No Longer at This Address',and pop it in a letter box. Although if anything looks as if it is from a debt collection agency or similar you may want make sure the bailiffs don't turn up on your doorstep. If you're in UK you can go to http://www.royalmail.com and report the problem to them.
- Just write on the envelope, RETURN TO SENDER. Once they get it back, they should stop delivering the mail.
- The previous owner of our house died over 3 years ago and he still gets mail and at least 1 xmas card every year. I write unknown or deceased and return to sender but it takes some companies a long time to update their mailing lists. I contacted the Post Office and they said they are obligated to deliver it to the address stated and I cant do anything else other than put return to sender.
- Buy yourself a "not at this address" rubber stamp.... Bank accounts/share dealings/pensions/saving cannot by law stop sending out statements & such. You can try a bit of detective work such as electoral roll for previous tenants, and try sending it to their 'new' address; That's about it.
