Postal Letter

I from the US, what is going on w/your postal system in the UK?

I keep seeing these posts on here about your postal system. I googled it a little, but I don't understand how you are getting your mail? Or are you? Can you pick it up yourself at the post office? I can't imagine how this is effecting businesses and citizens There is nothing on the American TV news about this. And yes Y?A mixes the US site /the UK/Ireland site on Current events.

  1. The Royal Mail workers are on strike for more pay. The longer it goes the less support from the public I don't think they had much support even from day one. No you can't collect your mail from the post office which makes it even worse.
  2. UK postmen and postwomen are on strike for various reasons. Depending on whether you listen to the workers or the bosses, the strike is about conditions of employment, contractual arrangements and the fight against thousands of job cuts (the workers) or resistance to modernization of the Royal Mail, that's what the postal service in the UK is called (the bosses). Right now, nobody is getting any mail that is normally distributed by Royal Mail in the UK, and you cannot collect your letters at the post office either, because nothing is being collected or sorted for distribution. Disruption to deliveries will last until the end of this week (13 October) and that may not even be the end of it. You can send letters and parcels via private couriers such as DHL, but these are still very expensive and they do not have offices on the high street, or mailing boxes along the road, only telephone or Internet services for you to arrange your transaction. It's a pity, because the Royal Mail, in my opinion, has consistently offered a good service, in comparison with the postal systems of some other European countries.
  3. They are on strike for more pay....I'm still getting my post, but wish they didn't bother as it always turns up at midday and it's always bills!!
