Postal Letter

Do the postal workers really expect the general public to have sympathy with them?

I certainly don't. I have been waiting since last week for a very important letter and now that they are intending to strike again next week, isn't it time we just disbanded the Royal Mail and looked for other alternatives? yeah vivi for an unskilled job, they get paid more than people who work in supermarkets of factories. They are acting as if they are the only organisation in the UK that has redundancies.

  1. no im waiting for letters also, its a disgrace. it feels like thay are trying to play god.
  2. not really.
  3. I personally don't see what they are moaning about. They get paid more than the minimum wage, they get one week off every six weeks and they are lucky enough to have a job where they can go on strike. Try going on strike when you work for a small building contractor and see how far it gets you!
  4. They don't want sympathy from us (which is lucky), they just want the management to give in to their demands...
  5. Its the unions i blame they have managed to shut down everything in this country. no wonder the UK is a joke now.
  6. Everyone gets affected by their striking, I'm not waiting for an important letter, just my bills but I don't want to be late paying them. Are they going to pay my late bill charges for me?
  7. They are not looking for sympathy - they want to cause as much upset as possible and get people moaning enough to ensure they get what they want. Shame they don't have any real competition.
  8. hello we do all our best to put the mail in you mail box may be who is sending it to you did not have the money to pay express it is not my fail he/she is ship do u have a idea how hard do we work how many times in chrstmas do we work 14 hours at day 6-7 days a week so you will have the pacage on your dor before christmas or new years do u know I spend last christmas not with my familly but working these letters and packages to be delivered next day or the same day do u know it is a team work startting by the person who puts the package on my hands and refuse to pay extra for fast delivery or to doble check the address that may take us hours to understand, because someone don't know how to write. No I don't spect sympathy from you,I have symphaty for my self who I know I did everything on my hands to make the package to get on time to it's destination.I may be just 23 but I have respect for others and for my job.usps
  9. wait until the competition starts to deliver, first thing you notice is the price ,i am not talking pence ,i am talking pounds ,so be thankful for the service .second it is a daily service ,you will not get that with private firms .and they will take long to deliver, they can not do a next day delivery.so do not take the royal mail for granted.they are going to change .like most public services,it is going to change BUT FOR THE WORST I FEAR.
  10. To be honest, I don't know. I know that DHL, UPS and Fedex will have to carry the bulk of the load if the us postal service workers go on strike. Do I have sympathy for them...not really. Not when the average postal worker makes 50k a year or more. (depending on region of course). Is it a glamorous job? no. Is it a good job....yes, it is. I understand about cost of living going up, things like that...but at the same point they do have to be fair about things too....there is only so far up they can allow the postal service rates to go up, before people will stop sending things through the usps at all. This means we can't expect that the starting salary for a postal worker would be fair if it's 100k a year or more....not unless each worker wants to do the job of 5 workers in a single day. Do I think they deserve some kind of a raise...a garantee in benifits....hell yes...they do work hard doing what they do....so they have earned the right to federal benifits that are intitled to them. I just think that they also need to understand that when you raise the salaries...you also loose jobs after awhile...so you are doing more work for that raise too.
  11. I have been talking to a postie and according to him, the main dispute is not really over their hourly pay but over their Pensions. Don't quote me on this because I don't know the facts, but he says that the Post Office was using the Superannuation deductions, not to invest for Pensions, but to finance projects like the Consultants with the brilliant idea of the "Expedia" fiasco which cost hundreds of thousands, only to change it all back again at more cost. As a result of that and similar blunders, the Pension Fund is now so low that Management has decided the retiring Posties must foot the bill by taking reduced Pensions at a time when the cost of living is increasing. If this is fact, then I can understand them being a bit disgruntled. About demands for pay rises and perks I've no info.
  12. no matter what postal workers demanding, if they go extremely to bring the general public inconvenience, they would lost any sympathy for themselves
  13. Well Yes. Does a few days without the post make any real difference to most people?
  14. If its a pension fund issue I can understand it,remember how Robert Maxwell plundered funds to keep his companies afloat and left people without pensions. However I do think the strike thing is misguided .I've been in industry a long time & any strike I saw cost the strikers dearly.I am really pi**ed off with them because I am expecting some important documents.
  15. They are fighting to maintain decent pay and conditions and pension rights. Their boss on the other hand couldnt care less about the public see link:- http://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/main.jhtml?xml=/money/2007/02/11/cnsains11.xml He obviously has other fingers in other pies, I am wondering what tie up he has with UPS?
  16. What bothers me about the postal service in the US is that they charge you for a package then they ask if you want to insure the package so that in case its lost you'll get the cost of the package back. This is garbage! It's crime! It's crime! My sister sent a package from the US over a month ago. it disappeared. I hate the people working in the post office. It's just a criminal organisation in my view.
  17. Yes the other alternatives could be worse!
  18. Veronica Alicia....What you say is fact. except you mean "Consignia" disaster not Expedia Duirmuid.............Excellent Reference. Postal workers are striking, as a "Last Resort ". "Not for the Joy of It ".. Yes, unfortunately the Public are suffering at present. Logically,Change should only be implemented for Positive, Constructive Reasons, Improvement in Service to Public. Not for reducing & destroying this Service. When the Royal Mail is finally Privatised, Britain will definitely be guaranteed a Postal Service........ Second to ...." None ".... Then the Complaints, Will Come Rolling In........ But it will be " Too Late "....Sorry...!
