Postal Letter

Postal Workers: Would you take a gift from a resident?

I've often thought of leaving my postal carrier a bottle of water, an reeses cup or a thank you card. How do I let them know to take it for themselves? My postal worker is female. No I don't need a backdoor relationship. Making one person happy is challenging enough. :)) I do think you should give credit where its do though. She is always on time. Will give a little knock when my packages come, not just leave it in the weather, and she's friendly.

  1. i would stay away from chocolate, as it melts. Actually i would stay away from anything edible. A card with their name on it with a gift card might be nice. Tape it to the inside of the door of the box, so it stays seperate from the rest of the mail.
  2. it sounds like you want to have a back door man. I can be your huckleberry.
  3. Our mail is delivered to our house and I know our postman's name so I put his name on a card. If you don't know their name just put "to our wonderful mail carrier." At Christmas I make up a basket of goodies for my mailman. We have had the same one for about 10 years and he is wonderful. Last year I was short on time so I got a gift certificate to a restaurant.... $25 and threw in some cookies and a jar of mixed nuts. If I have just baked some cookies, I will catch him and give him a baggie full. It pays off too... there have been a few times where something has come with postage due and he has paid it for me and left me a note. The next day I just leave the amount in an envelope for him with a thank you note.
  4. Different jobs have different employer made rules about accepting gifts, and also about holiday gifts. However these days anything accepted could be harmful to the acceptor. Don't offer them anything as they can bring their own food or water if they need that (they have a large leather bag they can put it in if they wanted, or store it in their car).
  5. I am not a postal worker but that is very nice of you to be considerate and appreciative. One time I was at my great aunt and uncle's house and they invited the mailman in their house for a drink of water. He only stayed about 10 minutes. Maybe on hot days, you can give them a bottled water....
