Why have Royal Mail postal workers been on strike this summer?

Public Comments

  1. my friend is a postman and he told me its due to their pay rise wasnt enough, he said inflation went up higher than the pay rise did
  2. for better working conditions.
  3. they want more money why dose any employees go on strike because the want more money
  4. because they like making other peoples life hell!!
  5. money as always
  6. you can get lots on this on the postal union's website www.cwu.org. It's largely to do with Royal Mail trying to cut jobs and pay, reduce postal services and apparently they reneged on an agreement reached last year too.
  7. for better working conditions.
  8. They are lucky to get a pay rise. My boss hasn't given a pay rise for two years!!!
  9. Who cares.....can anyone else just refuse to work without getting fired? Disrupt the rest of the country to demand more money?
  10. i think it had to do with a poor pay-rise but frankly it was follow the leader as i think half of them didn't have a clue what it was all about
  11. because they are lazy
  12. The main reasons are not really any thing to do with pay rises. Reason 1) Royal mail wants to bring in automation, to keep in-line with its competitors. That means very many job loses. 2) Royal mail wants to alter the start times of postmen/woman (therefore taking away their early shift allowance,..also you will be likely to get your mail at between 10.30am and 4.00pm) also door to door items will increase from 3 per week to around 10per week with out postmen/women getting paid for them. So you see its not about getting extra its about keeping what you have.....
  13. money, money,money
  14. I have a few friends work in the mail sorter at the Royal mail. They are complaining about their work was not up to their standard also complaining about their supervisors booting their worker for missing letter, parcel. and putting extra working hours on the their staff..The union was offer 3%increase pay rise..The government not doing anything about it. I personally think the government and the union should sort it out after all. It is not just about money.
  15. for more pay
