What is the differnece between the General: post-office and the UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE?
The United States Post Office was est. prior to the UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE. I believe the USPS is a derivative of the United States Post Office. I notice that all of the Post Office buildings state on the building United States Post Office but when you walk inside the all of the signage reads UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE!

- A post office is the building in which houses the US postal service.
- I think it's all the same thing, dude.
- Until 1971 the Post Office was a cabinet level, government department. Then the post office went semi-private and became the USPS. What you have noticed is the difference in labels from pre and post '71.
