Is the United States Postal Service owned and ran by the United States Federal Government?

If not. Why are they given exemptions, incentives and protected by the US Secret Service?

  1. No, not at all... It's ran by the Iraqi government! Here's a hint... UNITED STATES Postal Service. It's run by the government, otherwise there would be several other people trying to cash in on the venture.
  2. yes, their budget comes from a US government. you have to take a civil service test to get a job there just like all government employees.
  3. You know what!!! the honest truth is that the US Postal Service is one of the few government agencies that does not rely on taxpayer money.
  4. So theoretically it is self-funded and self-managed, but must deliver to every US citizen their mail, which is controlled by minimum federal requirements. If the USPS doesn't pull in enough revenue, the Feds will cover it. Very few countries manage to privatize their mail service, but some have done so.
  5. According to the Postal History page on the US Postal Service Web site: | The United States Postal ServiceĀ® is an | independent establishment of the Executive | Branch of the United States Government. It | operates in a businesslike way. This site and some pages linked from it have more details about it structure and methods of operation and financing.
  6. Yes, the USPS is run by the federal government. It is not, however, protected by Secret Service. I don't know where you got that impression. Secret Service ONLY protects presidents and their immediate families, and also works against counterfeit money. I don't know what exemptions and incentives you are talking about either.
