How Hard is it to get a carrier job with the United States Postal Service?

How hard it is to get in with the USPS? Can I still take the exam without a job opening? Or do I have to wait for an opening for the exam? Any info would be great.

1. If you have a pulse and a second grade education you should do fine.
2. Whenever the list dwindles down they give it anew. Watch in the newspaper and at USPS.com/jobs
