postal system in india?

hi, how does the post office work in india, im going to bangalore, what are the steps I need to take to mail, 5 or 10 OZ book, or a 1 pound shoe box size to the usa, how much does it cost? regular mail? or UPS? FedX? how long it takes to arrive? any benifit to use them instead of post office? also, do I have to bring in the items unpacked and let the post office workers view the items and pack for me like they require in China, or do I pack it all first and then bring it to the post office and pay? thanks for you answers

1. 1.You need to pack the parcel with white cloth. Write address in block letters. You need to write "REGISTERED PARCEL" on the top. 2. Go to nearest post office. Persons there will guide you what to do. 3. Keep the receipt with you. 4.Cost will depend on weight. 5.Post office method will be cheaper for you. For usa parcel will take 5 to 7 days.

3. Pack the contents in a box. Close the box securely. Cover the box tightly with a white cloth, seal it with tamperproof shellac at different points and then write the name of the addressee on the cloth. Take it to the post office and tell them that you want to send the parcel abroad. They will probably suggest sending it as a REGISTERED PARCEL BY AIR MAIL. Whatever they suggest, write that at the top of the parcel, on the side where the address is written. It will then be weighed and you have to pay accordingly, either at the counter or by affixing postal stamps. It is cheaper than courier.
