Mobile Sandwich Van in the UK?
Does anyone run a sandwich delivey van in the UK? My friend & I are considering starting up in business running our own delivery van selling sandwiches, baguettes and pasta pots to offices and colleges. We would like to know a rough estimate of the annual turnover and the costs of running such a business. Also, does anyone have any advice or suggestions for us before we start up? Thanks in advance The area we have in mind only has 1 van which goes around and he sells Sayer's products so ours is quite a different and new venture for the area.

- Don't do it, unless you have a large catchment area and minimal competition. I own a company in a market town (approx. 70,000 population) and we have sandwich vans call. The "newcombers" don't last long as they find it difficult to break into the market as the established vans give a good service and the new ones have to call either early or late to miss them which is no good especially with hot food.
- There was one in Poole, Dorset when I worked on an industrial estate there. I would first speak to Environmental Health to find out the implications (I assume you are going to make your own sandwiches etc?) You can't estimate costs here because we don't know how large a round it's going to be.... But look at cost of:- Van - £220/month Tax/Fuel/running costs (if local) - £300/month Insurance (Liability etc) £70/month Then your stock!!
