How would you feel about a delivery service that brings beer, wine, and cigarettes to your door?

Just trying to get some thoughts, I know other companies are out there, but I wanted to see what a consumer would think about this idea. Hours will be from noon to 2am everyday. The goal would be to help keep people off of the road when they have been drinking and need some more beverages or smokes. I was thinking in a college town with a set fee for each delivery, or doing a minimum dollar amount and the delivery will be free.

  1. they already have that its called B & D
  2. sounds great, but good luck getting the liscense. Liqoure liscenseing is set up to prevent this in many states. Do your research first. If it works out, awsome.
  3. Good idea, but you WILL have problems with drunks when you deliver alcohol..LOL
  4. Sounds to me like a delivery man is going to get mugged real often! It might keep people off the road, but you are also enabling all those young students who might not go out to drink otherwise.
  5. I think it would be pretty cool, less drunks...less accidents..
  6. Depends... if you don't card literally EVERYONE in the place, you're contributing to the delinquency of a minor. And that could be serious trouble for your business. If you get that little detail ironed out, this is actually a REALLY good idea. I know I'd feel better about it, living in a small college town myself. I pass drunks on the road every friday and saturday night. It's dangerous.
  7. I think any business that keeps drunks off the road is a good idea. And just because someone is already doing it doesn't mean you can't give them some competition.
  8. Sounds good, do your research, could be on to something. Good luck.
  9. the wine i would want other than that get the hell of mt property
  10. I think the poor delivery people would be a target for crime!
  11. I heave heard that it is done in Europe. It is more on a fixed schedule and hence there is no cost for delivery. I think your idea of minimum $ purchase amount may work as long as it is not too much. There are not many rich kids in college town.... have to be careful to ensure that you don't sell to underage kids... you may also want to check out whether you need to have a permit to sell liqor... you don't want to go behind bars for this fact.
  12. They have them :) I've belonged to several wine clubs over the years. Also, several wine stores in my area deliver. All require someone over the age of 21 to sign. If your stated intention is to sell to people who are too intoxicated to drive then you will run into HUGE liability issues because just like bartenders, you're not supposed to provide alcohol to someone who appears to be at a certain blood alcohol level. So the fact that you are positioning this as a way to get alcohol to people so drunk they are incapable of driving is going to be a HUGE huge issue. Also, the providing alcohol to a building where an over 21 person answers the door - but a roomful of under 21 people are right behind it - is also going to be a huge liability issue. This is exactly the scenario that anti-shipping advocates brought up when the whole wine shipping legislation was argued in recent years. If this actually got going, it would be the sort of thing that would have those people say "See we told you so", and have legislators shut down the shipping laws as being too dangerous. You'd have MADD lobbying against you heavily, to shut you down. They'd probably write a special bill just to prevent this sort of thing. If anything I would start with the cigarettes and sodas idea, and position it as "helpful for busy people" and "for moms who are home with the kids and don't want to get out" although even there, offering to drive cigarettes to moms home with young kids would probably get you a lot of negative press. In any case, I would suggest starting with something less politically dangerous. Start with sodas and chips and things. Say it's the perfect thing if you're having a party and run out, you'll bring it right to them. Everyone will love that, and parents will all promote you heavily. Then once you get the publicity and traction and customer base you can consider expanding. Lisa Shea WineIntro.com
  13. Here in Hong Kong we have a number of these companies allready.....very handy and the prices are only a little over supermarket prices.
  14. That is such a brilliant idea I don't know what your gas prices are out there, but are you sure you want to do a free delivery? I would suggest a minimum dollar amount and a flat delivery charge in addition to whatever the cost of the items are that you deliver. Great idea....I am wondering if you can get colleges to 'buy into' this delivery service, if they would be willing to throw in a few dollars. Good luck to you.
  15. Many liquor stores in Illinois offer delivery service. I think it's a great idea. Many times when you're among friends it takes a hour or so of arguing with friends on deciding who's going to the store this method of delivery solves that problem.
  16. I believe they would become my new best friends!
  17. I have never heard of this before, and it probably would never happen in my town. But I love this idea. Bravo, I wish you much success!
  18. Very civilized!!!!When are you gonna be delivering in Houston???
  19. I thought about that idea too. I work in a liquor/tobacco store. You should check the laws first. Depending on your state you might not be able to do that. Liquor Laws and License stuff you know. Also put this thought through your brain, Robbery and Liability.
