Taught mailman a lesson for macing my dog. What do you think?

My local mailman is a real jerk. He maced my dog through a screen door. Like my dog could have really bit him through a door. So to get revenge on this gutless/ coward mailman, I went to the public mailbox (the standard blue ones) he picks up at and scooped 1/2 gallon of chocolate fudge ice cream in it. I then waited from afar to see the look of disgust on his face as he tried to make sense of the ruined ice cream soaked mail. Now hopefully when he brings this back to the post office he will be fired for getting his ice cream on the mail. Don't you agree this is great karma for an animal abuser?

Well I feel kinda bad for the people who's mail got ruined but it serves the guy right. I think I would also call and report him for macing your dog especially if the dog was inside your house. Sounds like this guy is just an a**hole. Hope your dog is doing ok

I totally hope you're joking. Not like I know where you live, but yesterday in one of "public mailboxes" I put my wedding invitations. The mailman should mace you, too.

That is funny as hell. I'd be pissed if my bills were in that mail but nonetheless I hope he got in trouble for it. Next time flatten his tires on his mail truck so he'll be stranded and late on his route and get into more trouble. Or better yet, Mace HIM when he delivers your mail.

You just ruined peoples mail, so it is bad Karma on you. A better way to handle it would have been to call the Main post office and report him.
Reporting him to his employer and charging him with abuse would have taught him a better lesson.
Nope, this sux for two reasons. First of all, you hurt all the other recipients of the mail. That's terrorism. Second, this jerk mailman won't make the connection between vandalism in the mailbox and macing your dog. What you should have done is report him to his boss for macing your dog.

I would not be posting on a public forum about doing this if I were you. Messing with the mail is a serious offense. And yeah you may have gotten revenge to your mailman but think of the letters that you ruined. It could be birthday cards for children, or letters to a soldier in iraq from his wife. Not cool.
You could face federal charges for that. I do understand our pets are like children to us. However I think you should have reported him in writing. I don't believe they are allowed to mase a dog for barking, especially if the dog can not get to him. I probably would have lost it on him honestly.
yea thats not just screwing up the mailman, thats tampering with other peoples mail. i know that sucks that he maced your dog, but if my mail was in that mailbox id be pissed. kinda childish, and yea dogs can run thru screen doors. if he felt threatend he had the right.

Well if i had mail in that box and it was important like most is I send out I wouldn't be to happy if I found it had ice cream all over it when or if it could be delivered. I think you could have just spoke with someone at the post office about the problem and gotten it resolved. ;o)
Great for the animal abuser, but what about all the people whose mail got ruined by the chocolate ice cream. Hope no one saw you, cause tampering with mail is a federal offense and your actions won't be seen in the same light as you meant them. Shame on the animal abuser, but shame on you too.
I think you would have done better to have made a complaint to the postmaster about your mailman and filed a report about it. Now all you've done is destroy mail that other people have gone to the trouble of sending out. Who knows what was in there? Priceless family photos being sent to a grandparent far away, bills with payments that needed to get in before the electric company turned off the power to a house with little children or elderly people. You didn't really take it out on the mailman, you exacted your revenge on all the people that didn't have anything to do with it.
Well, Harry, I hope this is a joke because the Feds can trace you through yahoo and have you arrested for a Federal offense--tampering with the U.S. Mail. Keep your dog under control and away from the screen door. A dog can easily lunge through a screen or glass door if he is provoked enough and the mail carrier knows that and so should you. The man is only trying to do is job. He doesn't have to put up with harassment. Grow up.

News flash, the mailmen are trained to mace animals that may be threatening. You probably don't know this, since you don't seem to know much, but the number one injury to mail carriers are from precious pets. Next item: Tampering with a mailbox is a federal offense. I hope they track you down.
I think you went to far... the karma here is that due to the mailmans action your dog will dislike and not trust mailmen again.(which could get you in trouble if he gets ahold of one). I have had my dog maced by cops before for no reason and it does suck. You should have put your energy into legal action against the mailman.

Firstly you only upset the people whose mail you destroyed, I doubt the mailman could care less. It is a federal offence to interfere with mail, I hope you are prosecuted. On top of that, you are not doing your dog any favours letting it even bark at the mailman. If it barks at him daily, and sees him leave afterwards, it will eventually believe it can run off anyone who calls at your house. Good job for screwing yourself over twice.

And how well cared for is your dog going to be while your in a Federal Prison? Hate to break it to you, but most mailboxes in public places have security cameras pointed at them. He probably did what Federal guidelines call for. Any dog over 8 or 10 pounds can easily go through a screen door.
I think it was childish, destroying others property, a federal crime and just about the stupidest thing. He wont lose his job over it a lot of morons dump things in the mail boxes like trash. You may have cost some innocent people valuable time if they were waiting on something in the mail that is now destroyed.Especially like tax forms that are due now. Is this question even real?? come on. Well it's a felony to tamper with those mailboxes, and you ruined other peoples mail on purpose. You'd better hope no one seen you do it! Yeah there are alot of assholes out there, and mail carriers may use their mace out of context. But perhaps you should put more than a screen between your dog and mailman so this won't happen again. If your mailbox is at your front door now, go get one that sits out side your yard so there is no excuse next time. I doubt you got him fired for that. I'm sure you could've came up with something better.

you were wrong.....he didn't get into trouble...he simply reported that the mailbox was vandalized. They called the police and a report was made, and at this moment all security cameras in your area will be scrutinized on the day and time it happened and you will be caught.........so you ruined peoples mail for no reason and now nothing will be done to him for macing your pet...you should have reported HIM to the postmaster
If he really did that, you should have lodged a complaint with the post master. If he really maced a dog through the screen door into someone's home, he'd get canned for that.

It is a federal crime to tamper with mail. Why didn't you just call the mailman's supervisor and handle it like an adult? If he does it again after talking to the supervisor, then call the police and report him. It's highly unlikely that they'll fire him for someone else dumping ice cream in the mailbox.

FIRST OF ALL THAT WAS REALLY IMMATURE AND AGAINST THE LAW. He should not have maced your dog through the screen but when people are scared they react just like dogs. Where were you when your dog was scared? I have a dog and would never let him bark at anyone. He is very protective when there are people he is unsure of but I have control of that situation. You need to be in control of your dog.
I guess i'd have to know more about the dog and his behavior. I have personally seen dogs go through a screen door so i can say from experience YES your dog could have bit him (assuming your dog isn't 5lbs or less). The fact is, biting in general, and biting of mailmen is a very big problem in this country. It's not just about avoiding getting people hurt, it's also about the perception of danger. Mailmen, or anyone else approaching your door for legal reasons should not have to be worried about the potential for violence from your dog or from anything else. I suspect that many have the opinion that they should mace first, ask questions later. Which i can certainly understand given the number of dog bites, especially with mailmen, they get every year. I certainly would not want my dog maced but i also know that if he were on one side of a screen door, the mailman would be correct to be worried.
No I do not agree. Mail people often have to come into contact with agressive dogs (some which may bite them). Your dog is just being protective and personally that is scary. If your mailbox is on your house and your door is open, and your dog is barking. I know that when I walk my dog there is some jerk who leaves their door open and the dog gets out and runs into the yard and barks at me. That's scary. Perhaps you should of kept your door close to prevent this. I know my postal carrier recently got bit by a dog and she's afraid of my dog because my dog growls/barks at everyone then she wants to go up to them and play. How she is. I try to be considerate and simply cover her mouth and let her go about her business so that she has no contact with my dog. I feel more sorry for your postal carrier than you. If your dog got mace in his eyes, you could of be the mature person and call the vet and take proper care for that. Then talk to the postal carrier and see what he had to say and try to be reasonable. Don't go and act immature in that sense. You could have also contacted your local post office and spoke to the supervisor there. They will advise you as to why your postal carrier did that if it's proper action or they could of taken proper action towards this situation. It's also a Federal Offense to tamper with mailboxes. So you actually broke the law and you can be fined or setenced based on how offensive the crime is. Also no one wants to recieve stains on their letters and that could have a lasting effect on the letters could of bled through or stained the papers. You really need to think beyond yourself in this case. You should of consider other alternatives to this specific situation other than doing that.

Personally I would of just gone straight to his supervisor and not destroyed other peoples mail. You were out to get him at the expense of innocent people. I don't approve of what he did to your dog, that was cruel.
since you did this when no one was around then it does not guarantee that he even knows why it was done. i would have spoken to him about the situation. if he is afraid the dog will try to get out and attack him, then maybe you should close the main door around the time you usually get your mail.there are mature ways of settling things like this. i feel sorry for your dog though.
