How does the mailman get into apartment buildings without carrying a thousand keys?
Is there a lock box or something that is used to store keys for USPS, UPS, and FEDEX guys? Yes, but how do they get through the security gate of each complex?

- Not exactly, they have a key for a lock that opens the entire front of the whole row of mailboxes at the same time and then they give each mail box their own mail and then flip it back up and close it.
- most of them dont open the front of the mailboxes...they open the OTHER SIDE...that only has 1 key. it's a huge door that shows the back of the mailboxes with the address showing. they simply put in your mail in each slot
- Other answerers have gone astray with your question. They have not answered incorrectly, yet they have not answered your question. In answer to your question... The US Postal Service has installed key-keepers at most apartment buildings. Within this key-keeper is a key to the front door of the building, or sometimes a button that activates the door-opening buzzer. On some routes that were granfathered into the old system, carriers may have a large number of keys on their keyring. This is an antiquated and time consuming set-up. UPS and FedEX DO NOT have key-keepers. They must ring the individual apartment to make a delivery.
- Postal workers, police, fire departments, etc. have a "passcode" that works on every gate. Without the passcode, there is no mail service, police or fire protection, etc. (How would they get there?)
- lots of time they have been give certian codes that will open or keys for some aparments on their route that will open the front door to the building
