Why do dogs dislike the mailman?

Everytime the mailman comes to my house, my dog goes crazy. Even when we are outside and she sees him driving in the mail truck or delivering mail she won't start barking. Today I took her to the vet and she went crazy as soon as the mailman walked through the door.

dogs are territorial, and very stupid.
Yeah I have always wondered that too. My dog just basically attacks ( like nicely, he's only like 8 inches tall lol ) any person he's sees lol ( like a stranger ).
I think it must have something to do with the uniform.
Mine doesn't.She wants to give the mailman ( or any deliveryman or handyman) a toy! Some watchdog!
Your dog said it was trying to protect the house from some guy coming up and putting junk mail in your mailbox. You should reward it.
haha I have had two dogs in my life my first dog absolutly adored most everyone and liked the mailman. The dog I have currently is shy and protective so she doesnt like alot of strangers lol
Because dogs are territorial and the mailman is a threat because he "intrudes" upon your dog's territory.
because mailmen are notorious for invading a dogs territory. dogs cant help but dislike them...coming everyday, ignoring the dogs threats, as if they wernt even there. and then the times they actually ring the doorbell to have you sign for something, and the dog gets yelled at for barking. i would be upset with them too.
Im really not positive but Ive heard its because they recognize the mailman (or any mailman since they all dress the same) as someone who when they bark, the mailman goes away. The mailman comes, the dog barks and the mailman goes away. The dog has accomplished something and makes a habit of it. I think its kinda a power thing. The dog thinks hes controlling the mailman and making him go away, so he does it everytime. Thats what Ive heard, I could be wrong. My mom is a mail lady and dogs hate her. Everytime she comes to my house my dogs go nuts. I dont get it.
Lol...I have had a theory about this for sometime..so thanks for the forum! I believe that the mailman is the ultimate adversary of the dog...They come to your yard, invade your territory momentarily, but then ride off like cowards without giving you the chance to show how tough you really are. So therefor it becomes a great mission everyday to unnerve this masked assailant! Our dog barked at our mailman, so our mailman actually came and introduced himself to us and our dog. Now the dog wags his tail when the mail arrives and waits in anticipation for him to come. My parents yap yap dog however chases the mailman from one end of my parents yard to the other (they live on a corner block) then waits for him to come up the other side of the road and repeats the harrassment..Their postie treats it as a game and guns his bike when he goes around the corner and tries to beat her to the fence...It is hilarious to watch!!
Dogs bark at the mailman because he carries the scent of every dog in the hood. The mailman must seem to be an alpha super dog to a dog.
My dog does this also!! I think its because she knows that she cant get to him/her. and it makes her mad!!
Well, I think the dog just gets excited and the more someone runs from a dog, the more excited it gets and they run even more. Its really normal.
