Applying for a job with the USPS as TE carrier?

I'm taking a year or two off of college, and am applying for a position at the local post office. Would this be a good, simple job for a year or two? How much does it pay generally?

  1. Wondering if you have actually contacted the USPS about a job. Here you have to wait til they take applications - then wait for them to do the testing - wait for the results - then get ranked with the other testers and placed on a waiting list. Highest scores get first shot at the actual jobs. Know people that have waited years to get one of those super benefited, secure jobs. Now a fill in rural route driver, where you use your own vehicle, are some times easier to get. Starting pay averages around $12.00hr. They aren't that simple.
