Postal Letter

i got my appendix removed on 05/21/08. my job entitles a lot of heavy lifting. anywhere from 50-120 pounds.?

5 weeks have gone by to this date 06/25/08. when can i return to work not worrying i will get hurt from lifting something heavy??? (a few details about my job: i work for FedEx Freight and i am a Dock Worker.) i got Appendicitis and got the appendectomy surgery done.

  1. It depends, but I had an appendectomy and I was completely inactive for about two weeks. My doctor told me to rest for at least 2-3 weeks the I should be fine after that. Personally I think you will be fine, but I would maybe contact your doctor before you do anything.
  2. Your doctor should be able to tell you when it's safe.
  3. If you had the surgery done laproscopically, you should be fine to lift really heavy things again in a week or so. They say a month, but for really heavy things (above 100lbs) I would wait another week.
  4. Usually about 6 weeks is the healing time otherwise you could break the inside stiches and open the wound causing possible infection and a longer healing time. But you may be able to by now. just check with your surgeon first and if he gives you the okay to go back to work, you'll be fine.
  5. Hi, ask your doctor. you should need a release from your doctor to go back to work anyway.
