How do the workers at USPS sort mail and deliver them so quickly and manage to do it everyday?

This has always been something that I have always wanted to know. If someone worked at USPS, that would be great. I mean, they have to sort the thousands of letters coming in from certain locations and sort them. How on earth do you sort THOUSANDS of letters? There are thousands of people who live in one zip code too. The also have to deliver packages while delivering mail. Also how do they give out the littles ad too? From grocery stores, etc. Seems like a hard job to manage all that.

2. Most of it is done by computer controlled sorting machines.
3. It's a team effort, and yes with lots of mechanical help too. Letter Carriers pick up from customers and drop boxes by a specific time, because all the mail has to be sent to "the plant" which resorts and sends mail out by truck and plane. (USPS uses a modified spoke and hub concept) Also we have machines that can sort letters at a rate of up to 7,000 pieces at a minute at the plant. Near the end of the journey the mail is reprocessed by Clerks and delivered by Letter Carriers. And the process begins anew each day...
