How hard is it to get a job as a mailman?

- You usually have to know someone to get in...
- You first have to take and pass the Civil Service Test, you can contact your post office for where to apply to take the test
- You have to take a civil service exam and pass it. It couldn't be too hard considering some of the people I've encountered at the post office. Good luck.
- You have to pass exams and have somebody pull strings for you.
- The civil service test is EXTREMELY difficult! I know 3 people who have taken it and said it was the hardest test they took in their life, ( and 2 of them were college educated). Its probably one of the hardest civil service exams out there, so if you qualify for the test, then i suggest you really prepare for it. Good Luck!
- You need to take the Civil Service Test. Check out the link below. Good luck, it's a nice career with good benefits.
- As a part time RRC (Rural Route Carrier) here are my suggestions. 1. Check out your local Post Office. If there are any openings, they will be posted. Also, if there are times that the next Civil Service Exam will be offered, they will also be posted. It will give you a phone number to call between certain dates. When you call that ##, you will answer a series of automated questions and then receive an application packet in the mail. Fill it out. It willalso give you the date, time & location for the exam. 2. Go to the library and check out the books on taking the civil service exam. One of the libriarians will be able to help you find the books. Study it. Yes, it is hard, but it is all common sense and stuff you may do on a day to day basis. Number recognition, alphabetizing, multiple choice, memorization and a few other sections. In the days before the test, eat well and get plenty of rest. Is is usually a 3-4 hour test. 3. Wait for your results. Usually within 2 weeks you will have them. This will tell you if you would be a favorable canidate for hiring. When you fill out your test info, it will ask for a list of cities/towns that you would be able to work in. If you pass your test, they will then put you on the list for those places. As openings become available, they will go down the list and call people to see if they are still interested & available. 4. If you get the call, they will then set you up for training. That in itself is fun and hectic. I did not have any outside help or connections. I applied, took the test, scored well and received a call for a job. Chances are you may have to wait for a bit before there is an opening, as it is a great occupation and not one that many people will just leave. You may initially get hired in to work Saturday's, vacations and call off. When I first began delivering, I only averaged about 7-10 days a month. I eventually learned every route and was working about 3 days per week. I have a full tiem job now, but still fill in on Saturday's and even days during the week if I can take a vacation day from my FT job. I love it. Good Luck, and if ya have any other questions, give me a shout.
- First you need to apply & pass the civil service test. After you pass it then you will need to begin the process of seeing which cities are looking for mail carriers.
- Depends on which kind of "mailman" we are referring to... Mailman that delivers the mail..slitely difficult. The Mailman that gets lonely housewife pregnant...not so hard.
