Who feels that there are too many people that expect to be tipped?

I am a very generous tipper when it comes to restaurant servers or hair dressers, etc. But nowadays the people who expect tips are ridiculous. I think the following should not be tipped. Who agrees? Conceirge - Getting you tickets and giving you directions is their only job. Why should they get a tip? Person waving down taxi in Vegas - I could have done that myself. Person making latte at coffee shop Bartender when picking up a phone-in food order - I should tip the bartender for handing me a bag? Should I tip the cashier at Walmart too? Mechanic Mailman Bathroom attendant - I'd rather you not even be in the bathroom. It kinda freaks me out. I realize that servers and bartenders make only the tipped employee minimum wage. But the employees in the above list make more than that. They should not be tipped for simply doing their essential job functions. Anyone agree?

  1. It is good manners to tip them. Use the bathroom at wal-mart and you won't have to tip anyone.
  2. I don't think tipping should be mandatory because alot of times the service sucks.
  3. I definitely agree--too many people expect to be tipped nowadays. I will say this--i am a cashier at walmart--i'd love the tip if you thought I did a good job---BUT--any employee at walmart is NOT allowed to accept tips. Its an ethics issue with them. So I'm assuming you were joking on that one. If they allowed us to accept tips--I think your Walmart cashiers would get alot more friendly and helpful. Some of them can be pretty awful.
