What are some very good free virus protection softwares i can download?

my computer keeps freezing up & running slow and my default security software says i need virus protection, but it only offers ones with costs. any suggestions?

1. Go to download.com and you will find a few good and free ones.
2. You could try scanning from safety.live.com, but the chances of finding a GOOD free virus scanner is slim to none. You can use the scanner on safety.live.com as many times as you'd like, the more the better! Cleans everything up. I'm not a pusher of Microsoft stuff... especially virus protection, but I did really like how well it caught some of the stuff my computer was doing without my knowledge. The best bet is something like NOD32 or AVG, please, I beg you, stay away from Norton and McAfee!
