- that means shut down any programs you have running
- An application is a program you are running. If you don't have any programs running, like Zone Alarm, McAfee, Norton, a game, email, etc., then ignore it. Otherwise, close everything down before you download the virus protection program. I hope that helps.
- The instruction is usually "close all other applications before running the download". It means close all the extra programs until you are just viewing your desktop. Do not "get rid" of the applications, just close them. Click on the red cross on the top right side.
- Generally, you're fine if no running programs appear in your task bar, including most of those that appear in the area by the clock. Most of those get loaded automatically at startup and can be shut down by right clicking and then selecting "Exit" or "Disable" or however they happen to word it. If you want to go crazy with it, you can CTRL/ALT/DEL and start shutting things down in your task manager, but you have to be very careful there, because some of that stuff is critical to keeping your OS running.
- Close any program that is currently open. You will know you have closed all programs when there is nothing left on your taskbar (except your quicklaunch buttons and system tray) http://www.cybertopcops.com/
