Postal Letter

Will the IRS stimulus check get forwaded to my new address if I filed the address change with the usps?

I'm concerned that it will get kicked back to the IRS regardless.

  1. yes no problem
  2. It will if you are lucky. You would have been better off filing out the IRS change of address form, which is probably too late now if your time for the paper check has come. If you don't have it within 2 weeks after your scheduled mailing date based on your SSN, you will need to call them.
  3. It might, but it will very possibly be returned to the IRS as undeliverable. File form 8822 change of address with the IRS - then if it gets returned to them they'll know where to resend it to.
  4. It won't be forwarded to the new address by the USPS, but the address change will be forwarded to the IRS. So if the check is returned, a new one will automatically be issued to the new address. You might want to call the IRS at 1-800-829-0582, extension 726 to verify that they have the new address. If not, they can change it on the spot.
  5. You must file Form 8822 Change of Address with the IRS. The USPS does not forward IRS mail, instead it put a yellow label with the new address and returns it to IRS, when IRS receives it it will send you a letter "Are you there" at the new address once you respond IRS will mail the check to your new address. You just delayed your Stimulus Check for about 6 weeks.
