How often does USPS update their tracking/confirmation page?

I bought something on ebay, and im not sure if they havent shipped out yet, or if it's just that USPS doesn't update their page too often.. My page keeps on saying something about electronic shipping info received, and that they have been notified by the shipper to expect a package for delivery.. I received that confirmation or tracking number Thursday, and it still shows the same stuff

1. just be patient. your item will arive in the mail within at the most, a week. depends on if its priority shipping or somthing else
2. It is real time, if you do not see it it has not shipped yet.
3. It isn't a tracking number, but a confirmation number. It won't be updated most likely until the night after delivery/attempted delivery.
