When you ship a package via USPS are you automatically given a tracking number?
I have to ship a package out this afternoon and the buyer requested a tracking number...Will i be given a tracking number or will i have to pay for delivery confirmation? What is delivery confirmation? I just put something up on e-bay (first time seller). So any experienced e-bay sellers please help me out! Thanks!

- You will have to pay the $.50 for delivery confirmation. USPS does not assign a tracking number automatically. Only UPS and FEDEx do.
- USPS is the United States Postal Service (post office). You dont get a tracking number unless you requested and paid for certified or registered mail. Online tracking is not that great. UPS is the United Parcel Service (brown truck). You get a tracking number on all packages. You can also track it online very easily.
- You have to pay a fee for delivery confirmation (FYI: It's not that reliable.) You dont get a tracking number. You're better off paying the extra $$ and do it UPS--and you get insurance, too. You'd have to pay a fee for insurance at USPS. Here's more information and the fees: http://www.usps.com/all/insuranceandextraservices/welcome.htm
- you can get a tracking number and go to their website and track where the package is along the way..as for a delivery confirmation i think you'll have to pay for that
- When you ship the item at the usps office they will ask do you want tracking and delivery confirmation its a little extra but i always get it b/c some buyers are not that honest on ebay. If you ship through paypal you have to do it so it does come with one and an email is sent to the buyer telling them the tracking number. My husband works for usps so i just send my packages with him everyday but before he started there i would always do everything online and it was safe for me (done is for 3 years). If you did it at the office and they didnt give you one tell them that you didnt include it with the shipping cost but it was mailed (give the date that you mailed it and for what city and state and maybe that will help!)
