- THIS is a great case for privatization. If the post office weren't at least somewhat supported by taxes, it would have gone out of business long long ago for poor service.
- Maybe the carrier didn't scan it into the system. Oh yea, let the USPS go private and you will be paying rates like UPS and Fedx. Different companies in different states bidding for the contract to sort the mail and then (like the telephone co, etc) your rates will sky rocket. And not only that, since different companies will be handling mail in different states and grandma's gift dissappears, NOBODY will claim responsibility. I get really aggravated at the Post Office, but it is the best for delivering mail then anywhere in the world and for a cheaper price. 15 yrs ago I sent a post card from an island and it was almost 3 times as much as here in the states.
- You have to realize that they ship millions of packages every day, and allowing their recipients to track their products is not as top of a priority as getting that person his/her package.
- It takes a little while to update the tracking #. I'm not sure if the handheld unit you sign uploads the information periodicly or if it's done when the unit is pluged in at the end of the day. from what I have seen it looks like it's the later.
- Whoever made the final delivery, whether that be a Letter Carrier at the home address or a clerk as it was picked up at the post office, missed the scan. I know in my office if we even miss one scan we're in trouble. I handled a case within the last month wherein a Letter Carrier was given a 2 year letter of warning for not scanning a piece. I would complain to your local post office and ask for your money back because you did not get the service for which you paid. Not all postal people are cranky. I deliver to 542 stops a day and my customers are very fond of me, and I of them. I'm sorry for your inconvenience.
