Very often, we got a mail chain and it is asked to be forwarded to friends. What is the purpose behind it ?

Very often, we got mail chains with a message to forward it to certain of people. In certain mails, there is a locative message, saying, win a free commodities say laptop, cameras. People are busy with their own work, there is hardly anyone would be enough time to go through the mail details, or who are the recipient of the mail. Who cares who are the recipients. So, who are the person who generate such mails and what is the purpose of such mails ? Do you have any idea ?

1. Apparently some people write up the chain mails as a hobby. Now the spam, to buy products and such, is strictly for the money. They get paid to send out millions of messages in hopes that two or three people will respond. The scams, as wild as they may seem, draw in hundreds of people per year, many sending the scammer thousands of dollars.
