Postal Letter

Best way to ship microphone through USPS to Canada?

I just sold a microphone on ebay and was wondering if I absolutely have to ship it in a USPS box. Does the box have to be certified? The guy I bought the mic used from sent it in a UPS box. I cannot reuse this and just tape the paid-for and printed postage on it, right? I basically need a 15x12x10 box, but I'm not sure if USPS Priority International has Flat Rate boxes this size.

  1. You don't have to use a USPS box. You can use any box, except those that have printed on the box some kind of hazardous material, for example you cannot use a box that has a brand of liquor, or toxic chemical, things like that. The Priority flat rate boxes are for domestic or international use. The flat rate boxes are not the best to use for something as light as a microphone. They have a weight limit up to 40 lbs. The flat rate to Canada is $23.00. You should be able to mail it cheaper than that using just a regular box and mailing it Priority Mail International. There is also First-Class Mail International that has a 4 pound weight limit and is cheaper than Priority. Priority does offer 6-10 day business delivery, tracking to major destinations and limited insurance is included. Certified Mail is not available for International mail but you might want a Return Receipt. PS Form 2865, Return Receipt for International Mail (Avis de Reception), is a pink card that is attached to a registered item, an insured parcel, or an Express Mail International item to certain countries at the time of mailing and that is removed and signed at the point of delivery and returned to the sender. Return receipt service provides the sender with evidence of delivery. Return receipts are completed in the country of destination in accordance with its internal regulations, which may not require the addressee’s signature except under special circumstances. These receipts are returned to the sender by airmail.
