Difference between two services ---- USPS ?

Hello, I want to send package to india weight is 14.5 ounce (420 Grams). Now when I select on USPS website, Calculate postage -> India -> Package…. I get three rates for priority mail : 1] Priority Mail International 2] Priority Mail International Flat Rate Box 3]Priority Mail International Large Flat Rate Box Now, I can understand Priority Large Flat Rate Box is for bigger pacakages - So this is out So now, what is diff. between 1&2 ??? What price do I need to calculate ? Link: http://ircalc.usps.gov/IntlMailServices.aspx?Country=10197&M=2&P=0&O=15&sd=1

  1. 1. Priority mail international: You would be using your own box and will be charged more for the dimensions and weight (14.5 oz) for the box 2. Priority Mail International Flat rate box: basically you can shove whatever you want into this box for a fixed rate. I'm assuming you have already entered in the dimensions and weight on the website. I think you should opt for #1
  2. I ship things alot both nationally and internationally...the priority has a weight constraint so the price is based upon how much the package weighs, the priority flat rate is a specific box supplied by the usps and it is one rate no matter how much the package weighs! So what ever you can fit in the flat rate box it will only cost you that amount, the regular priority can fluxuate a lot! Usually I use flat rate when I am unsure of how much something weighs or if I am sending several things it saves money - or if I find something else to send then the price will not change if I add it to the box too....! Hope this helps!
  3. Some incorrect and incomplete information has already been posted for you. This is the correct information. 1) Priority Mail International. You can use any USPS provided Priority Mail Box, other than the Flat Rate Boxes, and you would pay the rate for 1 pound to India, $18.50. 2) The Priority mail Flat Rate Box has a maximum Weight limit for International destinations of 20 pounds. For this package, this would not be a good option. Cost is $37.00 for either of the 2 FRBs. You MUST use the specifically designated box that states Flat Rate Box to use Flat Rate Postage. 3) The Large Flat Rate Box is still limited to 20 pounds but is about 50% larger than the other FRBs. You must use the specifically designated box that states Large Flat Rate Box to use the L/FRB Postage. Cost is $49.95. There is another, lower cost option that you may want to consider. With a light weight of 14.5 ounces, which is charged the 15 oz rate, First Class Mail International would only cost $10.10. The down side is that FCMI does not have any tracking or Indemnity coverage included, nor can you purchase any Insurance through USPS. You can not make any sort of inquiry if the package would happen to go missing. It's just a chance you take for a lower cost. Depending on the value of what you are sending it might be worth the extra postage to use option #1. You can use any of the USPS provided boxes if there is one that fits your needs.
