Postal Jobs? Do people really have to pay to take the exams or is that a scam?

I am interested in working for the USPS but when ever I call the numbers provided to inquire about the jobs available and the test dates I am given this ridiculous price to pay for the study guide and the tests. Are they for real?

  1. They're scams. like the first answer.
  2. They are a scam , don't pay .
  3. They may charge for study guides but you don't have to get them. I took the test and didn't pay anything. If you aren't sure though, call the Postmaster at your local Post Office. The Postmaster can set you straight.
  4. Yes you really have to pay to take the test. That is kind of dumb though
  5. Yes, you have to take a test.
  6. It's a scam for number 1 and for number 2, the U.S. Postal Service hasn't hired anyone for some time now. Move on from that one.
  7. THEY ARE SCAMS!!! Anytime you have to pay to work..it is most likely a scam. They should pay YOU ...you don't pay to work.
  8. yes, you have to take a civil servant entrance exam. it is not a scam. you have to get a certain score for them to hire you. there are books that help you study for the exam.
  9. They, so to speak, is someone with government information regarding the different positions and the study guides for those tests. Yes, they are legit if you want to make a better and higher grade on your test. However, they are not affiliated with the gov. nor do they hire for the gov. They are just people or organizations who will help you raise your chances when you take a gov. test. Go to your nearest Postal Service and they will tell you where to go to take a test. Its up to you if you want to take the chance with purchasing a study guide. The postal service has their own study guides that are free of charge. Good luck in your endeavor.
  10. You DO NOT need to pay anything to take any Postal Exams!!! You don't have to pay anyone to tell you when/where these exams are given. But, if you need help preparing for the exams, there are plenty of people who want to take your money and teach you exactly what is already in the study guides that you can check out from the library. The following site is the ONLY legitimate site to search for USPS exams. https://uspsapps.hr-services.org/ Go to this site, click on continue, a window will pop up, select your state. click continue. This will tell you which tests are available, and for how long they're available for. The one you want to take is the Exam 473, which is the entry exam. If you have any prior/current military service, this test is more readily available to you. But, if not,..... This exam is rarely given to the general public. And, from the looks of it, it won't be given to the general public for a LONG time! Due to the fact that they're going to lay-off approximately 16,000 career employee in the near future. Good luck trying to get in. It WILL be hard!!!
  11. It's HORSESH**!!!! I work for USPS. i took several tests before i got hired and never had to pay anything. This is a Government job, they can't charge you just to take an eligibility test! That's crazy! However, some of those study guides really will help you. I used one and it def helped me get a higher score. I bought my guide on Amazon dot com...don't recall the name of it though. The tough part of the test is the memorization section. Otherwise, it's just common sense! The key to the memorization test is to SKIP the practice tests and work on memorizing the information for the real test!!! That is REAL info right there! You'll know what i;m talkin' about when u take the test!! F-practice tests...start mesmerizing IMMEDIATELY!!! Serious
  12. i work for the post office and YES it is a scam. they warned us about that in orientation. the only way to work for the post office is to go through the post office system. test booklets, letters, applications that hasnt come from the post office itself, is a scam. the post office dont charge for u to take the test. TRUST ME. after i took the test, they were taking a long time to hire me so i saw the 'postal jobs' thing n the newspaper and they told me to send 90 sumthing dollars then they'll send the study guide. im glad i didnt. Anything that ask for money upfront job-wise is usually a scam....by the way, i really doubt the post office is hiring. im actually fearing for my job. they laying people off, they starting to cut morning shifts leaving them with only 2 shift options, and jus today our manager told us the post office is borrowing money to pay our salaries. so i would think about looking for a job elsewhere...i am.
