What does the delivery service charge mean on my electric bill?

I have Central Hudson as my electric service and they charge me a delivery service charge. I am not sure what that means

1. Delivery charges - the charges on an electric customer’s bill that cover carrying the electricity through the transmission and distribution system from the generating company to the customer’s home or business.
2. The company that produces the power I use does not own the lines leading to my house. They want to get their bit of $$ for transporting the power from where it was produced to where it will be used.
