How often does the US Postal Service issue new stamps?

How often does the USPS issue new stamps, that is, a new stamp design? Is there anywhere on the internet you can see upcoming stamps before they are issued? I started at the USPS website - I did not find it useful for finding an answer to this question. Not interested in looking at what is currently available. Already did that before posting the question. Anyone know how to find and look at *upcoming* issues?

  1. That's a little difficult to answer, because the USPS issues stamps at varying seasons and times. There will always be two sets issued at Christmas, and usually a Love stamp in February, and you can always expect Olympics themed stamps in the appropriate year of the Olympics, but the randomness of other occasions makes them a little harder to predict (like statehood commemorations, and comic book heroes) Their website is extremely helpful( http://shop.usps.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/TopCategoriesDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10001&catalogId=10152 The Postal Store), though right now the section on forthcoming releases (Click on "For Education", then click on :Forthcoming Issues" ) is empty. Normally they have what's coming up and when it will be released, but right now you'll have to go to the For Education- Stamp Collecting pages where they actually have all the 2008 stamps issued available for viewing. http://shop.usps.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ContentUpload1View?status=i&langId=-1&storeId=10001&catalogId=10152&HTMLName=stampcollecting.html&pagetitle=S_Collecting Hope this helps!
