USPS Mail Forwarding?

I just sent a piece of postal mail to an address where someone moved from. It had signature confirmation. I looked it up and it said notice left although I know the person no longer lives there. Does this mean that there was no forwarding address left and how can I find out if there is a forwarding address? The post office I mailed it from would not tell me.
