  1. Yes, there will always be a post office.
  2. Privatisation has been the scourge of this country.
  3. The workers union is their own worst enemy. Years ago they were told to change as electronic communications started to arrive. Because we also had weak Governments they gave way every time, so modernisation/change years ago was not started. Competition started and still they didn't take the hint! Now it is too late and workers/consumers have to suffer. The Union bosses don't care as they still get paid and pretend they are on the side of the workers! Any enterprise run by the state is useless. Sorry for the workers, but their union has brought it upon them!
  4. Hi LBJ, our postal system here is broken, the workers are rude, cold, and very uncaring because their jobs are subsidized by the Federal Government. 90% of the people that work in the post office get away with being mean because they know they cannot be fired for being rude. Whereas if it was privatized, and you paid, and promoted employees based on merit, attitudes towards customers, and fellow employees are completely different. I am in a similar industry, and work for myself, and the reason that I have succeeded, and have so many repeat customers is because everyone who walks through my door is greeted with a smile, treated with respect, and made to feel as though they are family, therefore they are willing to pay a little more for great service. Our postal service is broken, and taxpayers would not be upset if they closed.
  5. yes
  6. The Royal Mail is knackered, how many items of post that come through your door carry a stamp? You have posties delivering other companies mail, so no matter how you look at it, the Royal Mail doesn't get the full profit of their own business. The need for small Post Offices is gone, my corner shop provides most of the same services. To keep the Post Office and Royal Mail, you have to give them back their monopoly to keep the business financially viable. I'd be more worried about privatised job centres from reading that article. That's one short step from conscription or slave labour.
  7. Yes, I suppose there will always be a Post Office but not as we know it, JIM, thought I would make it sound Star Treckish. But,honestly, I am so fed up of having to romp miles for a stamp to put on my letters. Which nana thought up the idea of shutting them up! I dunno, it gets worse.
  8. Luludood put it much more eloquently than I could. They were warned this would happen but refused to modernise in case it alienated all the old ladies who refused to get a bank account. etc. If it weren't for progress and modernisation, YAHOO answeres would be done by carrier pigeon.
  9. I do not think we can call it a postal service anymore I used to pick up my mail from the doormat prior to the trip to the office in the morning , now when it arrives it is around 3/30pm.
  10. I seriously doubt if there'll be anything left of the postal service. Especially if things keep going the way they are (recession).
