Not to sound like a jerk...but, why should I tip the mailman for doing he is job?

My taxes are already go towards his profession(damn stamps) anyway. Plus, he is freaking federal. I work for the state and deal with the public everyday and not once would I ever expect a monetary gift or even non-monetary one. I am paid to do my job so a tip is completely unnecessary to me. 2. because now of days..we are tipping the mail man so he doesn't run off with our mail, dumb it in the ocean, stock pile it in his house until he is found dead under it...I think it is to help keep the mail man sane and not to set them off in a gun battle from a clock tower!
