Postal Letter

Is the US Postal Service on its way out?

Everyone knows that the USPS hasn't been making much money lately. The ad flyers are the only thing that seems to be keeping it alive. And now they've come out with the Forever Stamp. They've always needed to raise the prices every year to stay in business. Do you think that this is their last stand because they don't figure on lasting much longer? I worked for the USPS for a while and I know first-hand how unorganized everything is anymore. There's always rumors around of it becoming privatized and all of the government employees being laid off.

  1. Well people will still need to mail packages and stuff. So it's always going to be there.
  2. well, there are going to last longer than people used to think - eBay is responsible for them having tons of business they didn't used to have.
  3. No, because the Constitution mandates some sort of mail service. Also they are raising their prices again shortly. Last I heard they were making a profit. Maybe that has changed. I can never get an answer out of them, but I always thought they received government funding.
  4. Nah. its a government agency so its not like there going to go bankrupt *the U.S postal service* and ups still delivers alot of things from internet shopping. I think its fine. I mean at least for another 20 years. Everything becomes obsolete after a while...
  5. They will be around until there is no paper mail to deliver. It costs money to get mail delivered. Oil runs this country. When that increases in price, everything else increases.
  6. I don't know but I do have a gripe. The mail used to be considered important. Now we get Junk Mail...that just seems wrong doesn't it? I wish it were illegal to send out junk mail. Lets vote on that!
  7. theyll come back to business when people realize that there is no privacy on the internet and a sealed letter is much better. but who knows, people are s tupid. maybe theyll just go on letting everyone who wants read their personal articles.
  8. I think ebayer's and those who have on-line businesses like amazon, abebooks, etc...etc...etc....would disagree with you. I know I am at the post office a minimum of once a week. Much more so now than I have in the past.
  9. I think that it will be around for a while longer. Not everyone has a computer or access to one, so those people will still rely on the USPS for paying thier bills, etc.
  10. We better hope not! (It has been this way all my life.) They come in very handy when UPS or fed ex goes on strike.) God Bless You
  11. Yes it is on it's way but not currently upcoming. Because of the internet and e-mail, the mail system has lost a great amount of business. But, people still need a way to ship things, such as from ebay. Yes there is UPS, but frankly I think they are not even close compared to USPS.
  12. it should be ... but too many federal union employees. The democrats will never allow it. Private sector could do it more efficiently ... but we all know this. Government is anything but efficient, and rarely effectual.
  13. No way. Their business may be shrinking but it is still really, really BIG. They'll be fine. P.S. Prices of a lot of things go up pretty regularly. It doesn't necessarily mean they're going out of business. Look at college tuition...I don't think they are going anywhere. I hope this helps.
  14. The reason why they don't make money is because of thier gross inefficiancy. They are a poster child for why affirmative action needs to be done away with.
  15. they probably still have a good 15-20 years left. So many government documents have to go through them etc... it'll be awhile before there is another solid method put in place.. especially since there's many countries where maybe 10% or less of their population doesn't have internet
  16. no
  17. aw i love sending letters!! they're so much more personal than emails or whatever. i dunno maybe i'm just old-fashioned??
