Why is shipping cost so high for US Postal Service Priority Mail?

I've sold my first item on eBay and I'm in Califorina, the buyer is in North Carolina. The cost is coming out to $22.60 for priority mail, that doesn't seem right. I've bought items on eBay with priority mail that were heavier than the one I'm sending and just as far away and it was never that much. Whats wrong?

1. It is because the paper costs money,gas.Its economy.
2. The item that you bought may have been heavier, but was it smaller to fit into a flat rate box? If your item is coming up to $22.xx to send, you need to change your shipping to USPS Parcel Post
