What is the proper way to return mail to sender?
We keep getting mail for the man that lived in our house more than 6 years ago. He is now deceased. We have marked out the bar on the bottom of the envelope and wrote Return to sender. No longer at this address with an arrow pointing to the sender. We still receive some of the mail back again. Is there a proper way to return this mail to prevent it from continually coming.

- Write a letter back to everyone who sends you a letter. Kinds Sirs, Madams & ILFs. Are you stupid?? I've been returning these letters to you for the last 6 years. The Man who lived here is deceased, so he isn't interested in your lame junk mail. Any more mail from you, and I will light my fire with it. Yours Truly вσуѕяυѕтιмєѕ3
- She wrote upon it: Return to Sender Address unknown No such number No such zone.
- Don't write anything on the mailing, but a post-it note should help.
- Not much you can do, really .We've had the same problem. We've sent the mail back with "not known at this address" written on it, we've written the companies letters explaining that they don't live here anymore (they moved to another country and we don't have an address to forward stuff too) and I've even phoned them and explained it all about 50 times. Each time they say "we'll take them off our list then", but we still get tens of letters from the same banks, holiday companies, shops etc. despite telling them time and time again that the people do not live here. I've even spoken to my local post office, but they said there was nothing they could do, so...
- I used to make the efforts you are going through. I even went to the post office and practically drew them a picture. Eventually I realized I was the only one who cared about this guy's mail. If he cared he'd contact the sender, if the post office cared they'd have listened to me at any one of my visits. I was going crazy for who? So I stopped. If it came I just threw it in the trash. And guess what, that only lasted for about 6 weeks. Know why? Because now that I wasn't spoonfeeding the guy his mail, and doing all his work for him, he (or his family/beneficiary - whoever benefits from receipt) had to actually make arrangements to receive his mail, or not get it. If no one does this, and it continues to come, just chuck it. Eventually you'll hit a census year and it'll stop.
- i usually write real big in black marker. RETURN TO SENDER. and thats it
- Yes. Inform the Post Office that he is deceased. Better to have your current problem then his problem
