I'm looking for Shipping companies that will ship personal belongings to another state?

I'm looking to have my belongings (e.g. clothes, musical instruments, cd's) shipped to another state and I DON'T WANT to use Fedex or UPS, they're way expensive. I don't have a lot of things - maybe only a few large boxes and some musical instruments. Are there freight companies that will ship my belongings for a flat rate or will give me a good deal?

1. AAA Cooper is one that I know of.
2. It would be better if you got smaller boxes and packed the stuff from the large boxes into them if possible. Smaller boxes are less likely to be damaged since they are easier to handle.Try the post office. You can ship stuff with them for the cheaper rate of Parcel Post.
3. I've moved cross-country a couple of times and I found that the cheapest way to ship those types of items is using Amtrack express shipping. You drop it off at the Amtrack station, they weigh it and give you a general idea of when it will arrive then you pick it up (or someone else pick it up if you aren't there yet) at the destination station. They only ship certain items though, so regardless of what you pack, just tell them it is clothes.
