If I'm using USPS flat rate, do I still need to know the weight of my package?

If I'm sending something ina flat rate box, do I still need to have an accurate weight? The "printing shipping labels" process asks for it before choosing the shipping option. I was wondering if USPS still scans the weight of the package even if it in a flat rate box? Because I don't have a scale, so I was planning on just making up the weight to get past the step.

1. You do not have to know the weight. Cram as much as you can in the box, the weight doesn't matter.

3. No, you do not need an accurate weight. You could pack the box with depleted uranium and say it was two ounces, and the post office would take it. However, if the weight is too far off, you're package might seem suspicious, and be delayed in shipping while it is inspected.
