How does USPS work for international shipping?

I bought an item from ebay , and the seller has told me that it will be shipped via USPS International Airmail and it would take7-12 days to get to Australia. Now my question is what happens if I am not at home ? Do they leave a slip to pick it up from post office or leave it at the door ? Thanks for your help

1. Well, the USPS employee that is bringing your package will have to fly back to the US and try again in a couple of days. Sorry, couldn't resist a little jab. You really need to ask that question of your own Postal Administration. What USPS does has no bearing on what happens in Australia.
