How do you feel about Dumbya's latest destruction of the US Constitution?
How do you feel about a signing statement attached to postal legislation by President Bush last month that could allow the Government to open your mail without a warrant? (full article is on Yahoo! News and CNN right now if you aren't familiar with it) I personally don't get anything other than bills and stuff I buy online right now... however, if I was writing personal letters to a GF, I would be severely pissed that someone opened and read it simply because it became "legal" to do so.

- Postal Vice President Tom Day said: "As has been the long-standing practice, first-class mail is protected from unreasonable search and seizure when in postal custody. Nothing in the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act changes this protection. The president is not exerting any new authority." You must have overlooked this little bit of info.
- The law already existed, he was clarifying it, not sure exactly what he clarified but it is done. For example when you mail weed to your liberal friends, they don't need a warrant to inspect it and arrest you. I am sure the clarification of the law is to help track down terrorists (remember the anthrax scare and how we couldn't catch them?) Don't be paranoid, and stop mailing weed. It's probably not you they are after...or is it?
- This, I'm thinking, is just another baby step toward the goal of the UN to reveal the 'New World Order'. The big step would be an attack on US, maybe Pat's right, that would through any survivors into a state of emergency and be easily acceptive of strict govt policies. How about gun control, I just heard the UN wants the waterway control, land - just like a commie/soc govt w/a police state & FEMA camps for dissidents.
- it's good for the war on terrorism stop being unamerican
- I agree with Proud American. This is just an arguing point.
- It truly is another step in the police state the Bush administartion is trying to establish. Just take a look at YA: most of these yahoos are cheering them on!
- Well now, there seems to be a problem with reading comprehension, if you will read it again this time all the way through you will find that there is no need to panick, The President George W. Bush has done no such thing as you imply. In respect of the presidential office that he holds, it is good ettiqete to call him President GW Bush Thank you
- The main question I have is if what they are talking about is already part of US law, why was it necessary to write about it in a signing statement?
- Your phrasing wreaks of your partisanship. Here's a link so people can read the story for themselves and note everything you left out. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070105/ap_on_go_pr_wh/opening_the_mail_6 Here's what the signing statement says: "The executive branch shall construe subsection 404(c) of title 39, as enacted by subsection 1010(e) of the act, which provides for opening of an item of a class of mail otherwise sealed against inspection, in a manner consistent, to the maximum extent permissible, with the need to conduct searches in exigent circumstances, such as to protect human life and safety against hazardous materials, and the need for physical searches specifically authorized by law for foreign intelligence collection. To answer your question - I'm not worried as there is nothing new here.
- The fed can read and keep all the junk I get to refinance my home, pre-approved credit cards and all that crap.
- wtf are you talking about skippy?
- Absolutely scary. People either don't know about - or if they do, they prefer to ignore it - that a 13 yr old schoolgirl was grilled by the Secret Service for posting anti-Bush stuff on MySpace. Rightttttt. Using our tax dollars to harrass a child while allowing tens of thousands of uninspected cargo containers daily. This administration gets weirder and spookier by the day. Back in the USSR.
