Postal Letter

Is it spiritually appropriate for a Jehovah's Witness to work for the government postal service?

http://www.thespoof.com/news/spoof.cfm?headline=s2i45229 Also, would it be against their New World Testament-trained consciences to deliver mail to the homeowner that consisted of Christmas and Birthday cards? Reo said please! wow!

  1. If your beliefs are getting in the way of other people's mail, your beliefs are at fault, not the mail.
  2. DID U NOT SEE THAT THE ARTICLE IS A PARODY????
  3. Working for the Federal government might fall under Be no part of this world as for delivery Holiday cards No because "they" are not "celebrating" the Holiday Ummmm.this is in there too The story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
  4. Yes to the question in bold. No to the detailed question. You realize that the article you linked is fiction right?
  5. I think you already asked this question before, or possibly one of your colleagues has......The postal service is no difference then working for a governmental health clinic or a food bank or anything else that is run by a governmental service. JW's do work in these areas if they feel inclined to do so. It is not against their religion. Going to War and supporting the war is wrong as it promotes disunity and killing which true Christians stay away from. EDIT: As regards to mail,...JW's are not in the business of opening private mail to determine what is in it.....Mail is mail.
  6. Pedi C please dont use spam against the Jw's.

  8. hahaha...my fathers elder does!
  9. Certainly we can work for the postal service. We can work for local florists too and deliver flowers on someone's birthday or whatever. We can work in stores and sell items people buy that is meant for Christmas or birthdays or whatever. Other people choosing to celebrate a holiday is not US choosing to celebrate. And delivering items as part of our job is not wrong. Now if we were the owner of a say...Halloween store and that was all we sold? Yes I think that would be pretty wrong. We would be making our living from solely from something we disapprove of. But it we had to deliver many items and some of them happened to be Christmas Cards, I find nothing offensive or even bothersome about that.
  10. I know a JW who as an elder back in Albuquerque who was a postman. He retired from that job back around 1985 I think. He had served in the Army before that and that is how he got the job at the post office. As far as I know it never violated his conscience, not even to wear the flag as a shoulder patch. He was one of the most spiritual people I ever knew, I wonder how he is doing now, he must be close to 75 by now. Last I heard he had to step down from being an elder for health reasons. But that was like ten years ago when I heard that. There should be no reason to feel like a JW cannot work for the government. Daniel and Joseph in the Bible were not only government workers but High Officials in Babylon and Egypt respectively. Military service should not be exempted either, if we consider that Cornelius was a soldier (Acts Chapter 10), who received Holy Spirit while holding his rank and position. He was also known for helping poor people. There were also two other soldiers who John the Baptist told to stop cheating people but never told them to give up their military careers in fact he told them to be happy with their pay. (Luke 3:14) I hope this answers your question.
  11. I know of at least two ELDERS who are postal carriers...which means they have the US flag somewhere on their uniform....seems hypocritical to me...
  12. Well, they let some people to competer in sports, and others are not allowed to do that...
