Can a mailman get fired for not delivering our mail?

He's done this 3 or 4 times for no reason at all, he simply skips our street if he's in a bad mood, or if a trashcan is half an inch too far up the street. My dad (who was expecting something important in the mail) had to chase him down to get it, while the mailman yelled at his face. What's your opinion?

1. Yes, but it will probably take some doing. Start a log, lodge a complaint, then lodge another complaint. Follow up etc.
2. can they be fired? yes. will they be fired? doubtful but he should be reported to the post master immediately
3. Call the postmaster and tell them. I once had a mail carrier who slept in his truck and then wouldn't deliver the mail. After I called, I never saw him again.
4. Just tell the post office they are out of . And all will be taken care of . As long as you do have a mail box that is assessable by the delivery person .
5. If the mailman feels that it would be dangerous to deliver the mail (your walkway is covered in ice, there is an unsecured dog, etc) then he can choose to not deliver your mail. Barring that, I don't think there is a reason he can deny you your service.
6. Complain to the supervisor at the post office. I don't think he'd get fired, but maybe he has a legitimate complaint as to why he is not delivering your mail. My mail didn't get delivered twice this week because the snow plows pushed the snow to the side of the street and went too far up our mailbox post and he didn't have enough room to drive up to the mailbox.

How do you know he skipps your street when he is in a bad mood? well either way yes he can get fired you should definetly call your local post office and find out who you need to talk to about that. Mail is a VERY serious issue it sounds dumb but it really is! the local government takes it very serious! he could get in big trouble for not doing his job!
8. No. Most supervisors will back the mailman, and rightly so. I'm sure there is a reason, you are just overlooking it. Is the trashcan BLOCKING the mailbox, or not even that- the mailman's ability to get the entire vehicle infront of the mailbox? Do you have a loose dog? Is a car parked blocking the way of the mailbox? It can be frustrating to try to deliver mail and do your job with obstacles every where you go. File a complaint w/ the post office, but it could be something you are doing. Instead of trying to have this person lose his job in our poor economic time, it would be more civil of you to place a complaint and inquire about the REASON you are not getting your mail!
9. they can and they do, I had a friend (mailman) get fired for failing to deliver crappy ad mail.
10. He most certainly can. It is a federal law that they will be breaking if the fail to deliver mail that they perfectly know should be. My uncle was a mail carrier and he seen 2 people get fired for deliberately not delivering mail. They was keeping the mail that they didn't want to deliver in their trunk of their car. They was caught be another mail carrier and turned in to the proper authorities
