Which is better for Email Outlook Express or a web based email? ?

I just wondered what the main features are that would make Outlook, Thunderbird or similar Email clients better than using a web based mail alone like yahoo mail or Gmail? Web based mail has so much room for storage and sending/receiving files, I just wondered how I can benefit from using Outlook/similar programs. Also when I do use Outlook (I have just set up for the first time a couple weeks ago) When you get spam mail to the inbox it always appears to open the message when I highlight it for deletion. Will it zap me with a virus by opening the message or isnt it opened because i am using the Email client instead of the web based email??? Also, why is it that Yahoo makes you pay for the plus mail to use Outlook when Gmail allows free access??

  1. If you want to have copies of your e-mails on your computer so that you do not have to go online every time to check something, you should use outlook or a similar client. Web based e-mail is more customized for the specific service you are using. You could generally do more with a web based account than you could do through a client. Business people tend to use Outlook because it is easier for them to check past e-mail without connecting to the internet. As for yahoo plus, they need the money more than google does at the moment. There are a lot of differences between the big three search engines.
  2. It depends on what your needs are. I use them both. I use Gmail with Windows Mail which is Vista version of Outlook Express. With Gmail none of my spam gets forwarded to Windows mail. I really never saw a use for having my email on my computer. But I know a few people who said it was great so I gave it a try. I really like it I've set up several files to save different type of emails. I have one for jokes that I like one for receipts for stuff I've bought online, one for receipts for work related items, and a couple of others for personal emails. I just drag and drop my emails to the files I want to save them in. I also keep my emails on Gmail so I always have backups. That way if something does happen on my computer, I won't lose anything important. I got to say I'm real happy using a email program on my computer. I don't know why Yahoo charges for plus mail. But there are a couple of programs that allow you to use regular Yahoo mail and have it downloaded to your computer. Here's a link you can check it out.
