What's the difference between the larger mail bin and the smaller?
Hello, I have a question. You know how you'd find one of those blue USPS mail bins on the side of the road or in a post office? What's the difference between that and that larger mail bin. Usually at a post office, there would be a larger bin and a small bin. The Smaller one sometimes says Express Mail, what does that mean? And if I want to mail a letter at home, I take the letter, place it in my mailbox, and put the red lever in the up position, right? Please answer my questions, I never mail things.
Public Comments
- The small one - Express mail has been paid for at a higher rate , it is similar to overnight mail Sometimes the small bin says LOCAL and usually mens "in this zip code only" or in this town only
- Express mail just means that it will be shipped faster. Be careful though, because sending mail by express costs more than does regular shipping (i.e. You need more postage.) You're right about putting the flag up when mailing a letter from a mailbox. The mailman will put the flag back down after he has picked up the letter.
- The size is dependent upon the usage that the public is expected to have of them./ Another reason is to avoid confusion since some people know which bin to use based on their experience.
